What exactly would you class as a "constuctive" post in a thread about an awards ceremony???
Something that adds to the discussion rather than dismissive comments from posters who can't even bring themselves to congratulate the winners.
They are only winning programmes because the pannel likes them...difference???
The panel has viewed the programmes/performances in question, and has compared performances with a view to agreeing on the best performance/programme. You don't have to like something to appreciate a performance (but of course, that's where some here let themselves down - they cannot be at all objective, and their track record is to dismiss things without even watching).

    Constructive?
Observational. As in "pointing out a fact" or "observing a state of affairs".

There is no criticism, no mealy-mouthed dismissive comment. Just stating a fact.

There were perhaps a number of additional, possibly negative comments that I could have added, but I did not.

Have YOU got anything constructive at all to post?

No credit from you either then? Pathetic.

I think this particular awards ceremony should win an award for the best award titles?
What programmes do you consider to be award winning material then?

Don't know. Probably the ones I've bought on DVD given I've awarded them my money and viewing time.

Notice though I didn't comment on any of the programmes, just this being yet another awards event.

Coming soon though, the BAFTA's, where I predict a landslide victory for the BBC in the Best Feature and Best Specialist Factual categories, but disappointment in Best News Coverage.

I also predict the BBC may forget to mention the BAFTA Craft Awards again.
How about straining yourself and being complimentary about this?

    A very worthwhile social initiative.

Nice ad in the bottom right corner. Get them loyal & hooked while they're young.

I don't see why anyone should feel an obligation to offer congratulations to any of the winners. It's not as though they read these forums, and even if they did an anonymous congratulations from a person they'll never meet using an interweb persona seems fairly meaningless. They're already getting an award and presumably some nice applause from their colleagues in the industry.

Given we pay to fund much of the programming that received awards, I'd like to see them thank, by name, each person who paid the TVL and helped them win. They could divvy us up amongst the winners, so it would only be a few million each. A list of names being read out would be no more boring than most awards show acceptance speeches, if the Oscars are anything to go by.

I am beginning to find all these awards shows a bit nauseating.
A load a self-congratulatory media types having a p1ss up at someone elses expense while telling each other how great they are.

So equally there is no obligation to enter the thread and comment at all then.

    But you do.

Good to see Outnumbered picking up another couple of well-deserved awards.

Plus, one for Robert Peston (another one of those hate figures, seemingly one of those four hooded blokes on horseback, riding past).

And yes, credit to all winners.

Have youeverlistened to........................ errrrrrr.......er RobertPeston ?

Except that the 'Anti's feel free to comment.' title sounds like an invitation to do so. So they're only taking up that invitation.

Yes, and despite his style (which does not annoy me at least), his award is well-deserved.

Everyone is free to comment, oh yes!

Totally free. Yes indeed. Free as a bird to make comments.

As long as everyone agrees with the OP.

If the quality of television programmes was diminishing over the last twenty years would BaftaTV, and all the rest, decide not to hand out any awards?

Of course they would still hand out awards. But it means nothing because the standards applied are not absolute they are relative.

Relative to all other entries that year that is. If the standard is poor someone will still win.

So cynical, and wildly missing the point as usual.

Wasn't sure what point I was meant to be hitting. Maybe one wondering why schools programming comes from the TV licence, not the education budget?

But either way, as it wasn't up for an award, not really relevant for this topic.

    Any awards on this week?

I think the "school report" is a great use of the license fee, with such a wholesale axing of commercial media newsrooms it's great that the kids can get a taste of TV news - don't you agree?

    Any awards on this week?

Don't know, i'm sure they will be somewhere, as long as they recognise quality - and not just popularity - i think they're quite valid.

Nice one Kenny T, nice to see it's the two shining lights of British Broadcast media who are up for awards.

Not unless you have the one BBC bashing thread of your own and update it as and when, how about that? :)

denegrating the three awards that Sky News got for award winning/quality news simply sounds like a bad case of sour grapes

There's a lot of sour grapes from the BBC mob about Sky News winning the RTS award for News Channel of the Year.
Your perfeclty happy to defend Sky when they win awards and also contribute to those threads. Why is it when there are threads for Sky winning awards you're not calling for them to be rolled into one?

If the awards get rolled into one then how about the same thing happening when you list two or three programmes as a summary of the entire output of a channel?! Or roll up all the licence fee threads into one?

I've said this already elsewhere, but I'm amused that Charlie Brooker's up for "Breakthrough Talent". I'm a big fan of his, but he's been involved in TV for nearly 10 years now...!

It's a bit like when a band you've been listening to for a few years suddenly gets a "Best New Artist" nomination, very nice, but doesn't make much sense.

Presumably because he has, with Screenwipe and now Newswipe, [i[]broken through[/i] to what is virtually mainstream acceptance (hence "breakthrough talent" as opposed to "new talent" or "newcomer")?

To be fair, it's for writing Dead Set rather than his usual stuff. And if RTD can be nominated for a writing award, don't see why Brooker shouldn't be. RTD should probably get the Kraft award instead.

I imagine he did that more with Dead Set on E4 and later Channel 4 to be honest. The Wipes are still somewhat "underground" for lack of a better term.

Have you actually seen the episode RTD was nominated for? A bloody brilliant piece of drama (IMHO of course).

Come on, someone criticising a BBC programme that they had actually watched - now that would be a novelty.
