Question Time: who would you replace David Dimbleby with?

I have been increasingly fed up through time at the growing ineffectiveness of the moderating and umpiring of Question Time by David Dimbleby. I remember fondly the programmes with Robin Day.

Who would you replace him with? My vote is for John Humphries who was very good and effective when he covered for David Dimbleby when he was off sick.

I would have thought Vine more likely.

Or how about Andrew Marr or Daisy McAndrew ?

(Apparently, David Dimbleby has been offered a new 5 year contract, but he's been delaying signing it- well, he is 72.)

A more modern presenter would make it more interesting.
Stuffed shirts from the old school like Dimbleby have had their day.

Someone like the presenters I named above wouldn't mind saying out loud what we all think.

Actually I think a Have I Got News For You style series of different presenters each week would give the show a boost

Chairing a programme isn't about giving an opinion at all- you want a different programme, which is fair enough.

Anyone who thinks the programme, the content and the contributors, are more important than themselves and their own views.

That should narrow the field down a bit.

You may or may not remember him, but he was damn good on Hardtalk, years ago; Tim Sebastian.

I think the presenter of QT is quite entitled to tell an MP when they are talking bollocks and spin - as many of them often do

I don't think it would be hard to find a balanced presenter with an equal disdain for MP's of all parties

On the times I saw him he was terrible. I remember a car crash interview with Tom Jones where he wouldn't let him answer a single question. He butted in half way through every answer and the viewer learned nothing from it.

I didn't catch that one, I saw him interviewing various political and business figures. I thought he was excellent.

Neither do I. Unless he wants to leave, I think he should stay.

Paxman should get the gig. It'd be more like the old days under Robin Day.

Andrew Neil for me. He is razor sharp and tough on all of the politicians he interviews, whatever their political persuasion.

Need somebody who is both impartial and professional- and willing to make the show all about the guests and audience.

    I recommend Kay Burley.

I agree Andrew Neil reads the riot act when neccesary to all politicians whatever party. He would be an excellent replacement.

It would also pave the way for Jo Coburn and Anita Anand to jointly present The Daily Politics.

Not Kay Burley! Especially after her performance in last Thursday's "This Week".

What, unlike that old leftie..David Dimbleby ?

Jeremy Paxman or Andrew Neil would be fine, but neither are exactly young though are they ?..if that's the reason for a change.
Victoria Coren would suit me, she's intelligent and there's nothing wrong with a bit of glamour on the show.
