This is why I think the decision to grab the Paralympics is easily the best decision Channel 4 have made in years. Its an almost completely untapped market and lends itself nicely to Channel 4 creating some distinctive and interesting coverage. They should continue their coverage of Paralympic events. Its a good move for them and they have a strong team in place to cover it now. If nothing else they learnt from their disastrous athletics coverage which suggested that they'd brought the championships on a complete whim with no clue how to cover it or who should front it.
It's kind of a shame they've given up the 2013 Athletics rights as I personally much preferred their commentary team of Jon Rawlings, Rob Walker and Katherine Merry to the same old voices we get all the time on the BBC (with the exception of Steve Cram). Sadly though that was all overshadowed by the ridiculous and baffling choice to bring in Ortis Deeley as the front man.
They have said they'll show the 2013 IPC Athletics Champs instead, but it'll be interesting to see how much. I'd expect at least some live coverage on More4, but wouldn't be surprised if it's just an hour of highlights three weeks later at 3am in the morning.
I think that Channel4 should try and capitalise on the Paralympics success by showing more Murderball competitions. It's just a very brutal and very watchable sport.
Celebrity Murderball - now that has a ring to it!
There are definately untapped opportunities to screen some Wheelchair Rugby and Basketball amongst other things, but C4 need to commit and offer preferably live coverage of GB games, or at the very least stick their highlights shows in prime weekend slots, not 7am on a Sunday morning or 2am on Tuesday nights. Indeed with T4 now gone there is no reason why they couldn't reinstate their Saturday morning sports block and run the Morning Line and other shows from 9am, rather than before 9am.
World's Strongest Man clearly affected by the soaps. A shame that Terry Hollands' heat, i.e. the best performance by a British competitor so far, ended up airing against those.
I can't see tonight's final doing as well as it might have done up against an hour-long EastEnders, although there should be more viewers around tonight than last night.
Abysmal! For some reason, people just switch off when it comes to movies on TV. Although the choice of movie was very poor.
It's not a great film by any stretch. The New York Times called it "irrepressibly silly" and the Washington Post labelled it an "empty-headed adventure." Not really primetime BBC One material, and it got the ratings it deserved.
Celebrity Mastermind performed much better than it has been over the past few days, although that seems to be the only show up, with all the soaps much lower than usual. That said Graham Norton and New Year's Eve Live did well.
Oh I am disappointed by that TOTP rating. I think it needed to be over 4 million (like the last NYE show in 2009) to help any (admittedly slim) chance of it coming back. Sunk by those pesky ITV soaps as always!
With New Year Live averaging 10.30m, and based on overnights, it is the 16th most watched programme of 2012. What a fantastic year 2012 has been for television and of course ratings

People love those fireworks. When did the New Year Live show become so huge?
When they changed it to just be a short show showing the fireworks. It was originally a longer show with lots of half arsed entertainment included which would obviously reduce the average.
Newsflash: on the biggest party night of the year, people are actually out partying, not sitting at home watching other people do it on C4.
Beyond awful rating for something C4 hyped up as an event. Hardly anyone turned out for it.
Was it not on until something crazy like 6am? In which case huge ratings were never conceivable. I may have made that up but I'm sure I read that somewhere?...

And ITV post 10pm, Bridget Jones and the News?
Anything also for the House Party on C4?
Looks like low ratings al round 2 b honest accept for the countdown. Not surprising though as most people would have been out celebrating.

MBB beats X Factor. That would have been unthinkable a few years ago.

So how many primetime ITV1 programmes did this beat across the Christmas fortnight?:p
Five-minute breakdown for New Year Live:
23:40 - 6.21m (37.14%)
23:45 - 7.38m (42.91%)
23:50 - 8.67m (47.84%)

24:05 - 13.27m (69.24%)
24:10 - 12.16m (65.96%)
Most shows beating The X Factor would have been unthinkable.
It didn't beat All Star Family Fortunes or Text Santa, but it did beat mostly everything else.

Despite what some people want to believe, there is no demand for a current pop show on the BBC.
