Why are the NTAs refered to the years of the new year (eg 2014) and not the old?

It's only been 2014 for a few weeks and the NTAs are being called the 2014 awards rather than 2013.

I think it's about this show was put back to near to the end of the year as before, It has always looked like the new year is nearly ending already and there have been other awards with the old year on the title.

August/October really isn't near the end of the year though.

It makes more sense to have it in January and have the shows from the past calender year up for the awards.

Its pretty obvious the awards are for the previous year. Its not just going to be for shows which have been seen in January.

It would sound a bit confusing if they kept calling it the National Television Awards 2013! It would sound like a repeat.

The academy awards are the same, referred to as the 2014 Oscars in news reports even when they clearly said 2013 when announcing the nominations.
