I think it s down to a direction from a certain Director, trying to do a Hitchcock...

It looks ever so false & forced, and suddenly, in an episode, there he is, Nail Biting like there's no tomorrow !!

Then it will go away for a few weeks, then it's back again..

Why ?

    A sign of anxiousness, maybe?
    He's supposed to have a depression storyline soon.

    Steve normally sits in his cab taxi off ice biting them,..he's done it for years :D
