I'm not that fussed about it either. In fact I voiced my disgust quite a bit when the Zoe Post went live. I wasn't happy with the attacks or the nature of the attacks.
The interesting thing here is, the fact that TechRaptor have actually made an effort to defend themselves. They haven't hidden behind a wall of censure or stifled debate. They feel that their behaviour stands up to scrutiny and can answer any questions that come up. Compare this to the behaviour of the other side of the argument, who do the exact opposite.
If you really want to stop playing games because they have added some female characters then go ahead... cut off your nose to spite your face.

You say you want female characters? Awesome. Let's take... Assassin's Creed 4 and make a female playable character. Cool, now we can pick...But wait, the story doesn't fit a female protagonist...okay, let's just write a new story for her. 50% more work required, but whatever. Then SJWs demand a trans character, male and female. Before you know it you're trying to cater a singular story to a group of people. It simply doesn't work.
Would you be happy if all your favorite books had to be rewritten by the original author with an opposite gendered protagonist. I'm pretty sure the author wouldn't be happy, and the quality of writing would suffer greatly. I love the book Atlas Shrugged. It would not work with a male protagonist.
Instead the answer, in my opinion, is to have games that star female characters, and games that star male characters. We already have that, and currently the gender split is proportionate to the majority player base of whichever genre that is. Problem is already solved. They're free to make more female main protagonists with their own stories though, doesn't bother be in the slightest. Most of my preferred books star female characters.

I don't think many people are actually suggesting that. What tends to happen is that people back down when someone is offended because it's easier than trying to argue and deal with the internet backlash.

The issue of bad blood between the two doesn't really affect the film because Aurini's role was never really that important, he's supposedly the video guy, but he's obviously not that good at his job so its for the best.
There is potential that two versions of the film will come out if Aurini just keeps going with what he's got.
Anyways, one is a progressive sex positive libertarian, and the other is on the alternative right, so maybe they couldn't agree on the direction of the film. The publicly stated reasons given so far for the split are a bit dubious, anyways it doesn't matter, just have to wait and see at this point as most of the work is done. I don't expect much more than an amateur documentary at the production level of Roger and Me.

I think Schafer may have already become a great asset to GamerGate. He's turned neutral people, game developers and even one predominately anti-GamerGate UK mainstream media outlet, The Independent, against what he said, stands for and the ideology of opponents of GamerGate.
I note that opponents of GamerGate are dismissing Schafer's bigotry as a mere joke in what could only be described as limited damage control. But we know that if a single GamerGate supporter made a joke, comment or tweet which dismissed a number of women and minorities with its tone of sexism, racism and homophobia contained within as Schafer did at GDC, opponents would dogpile on them within seconds. It's when he starts calling for people to be fired from places they don't work for without giving reasons, and claiming he's not allowed to speak that it gets really funny. (He was also reportedly quite a horrible person to work for, but that probably goes for a lot of bosses).
