Good point about not 'dragging you through the aftermath' MrTheD, and I totally agree. This drama knows when to stop and let the viewers' imagination take over, and it's all the more powerful for it.

At the same time it gives you enough explanation/logical reason why things happen, unlike something like Broadchurch IMO.

    Totally agree with you.

I thought last nights episode was brilliant.

This is absolutely TV at it's best. Each episode holds your interest & you never know how each one will end. Congratulations to all involved.

So Jason was a victim of domestic abuse, who knew! Well, everyone, I guess.

Decent episode, shame the gamble didn't pay off as it would have meant one less cliche and made the same decisions form an even stronger resolution.

I agree with that as don't addict gamblers win and want to win more. That would have been a nice touch to show him win for once.

We're led to believe that at any one time 95% of the acting profession are out of work and it's no wonder when the same actors are used all the time, why ?
Why Manford when there must be thousands of fat northern proper actors out of work ?
Why Sally Lindsay, Joyner, keegan, crook ? They're all very average, why not give some new faces a chance at a starring role ?

Because the well known names are what persuade viewers to watch? Iactualy think thy are all reasonable actors as well.

A small win wouldn't have covered all his debts, his wife's call could have pulled him away from the table then choosing to still reveal the truth and not go back would have been huge. I can't see a reason not to do it this way apart from dumbing it down.

    Agreed.

Every episode has been real quality - I've been watching through my fingers at times. Some of it has been really uncomfortable and awkward viewing but .............it has been quite brilliant IMO. Excellent writing and casting.

So, a lot of ex-soap actresses, plus the daughter of a soap actress. Who, apparently, doesn't use her own name, but prefers one (her stepfather's ) linking her to that actress. Just in case any casting director should be in any doubt that she's entitled to parts because of her heritage.

Let's hope michelle eventually learned her lines.

I have been out of the UK for while and have only just caught up with this thread and the series - watched the first one today and looking forward to the rest of them.

Rebecca Callard took her stepfathers name in 1989 - 26 years ago so why should she want to change it.
She was known as Rebecca Callard when she made a fitness DVD in 2003 so not a name change she made recently.

I think you are confusing gambling addicts with professional gamblers. Unless it is a game of skill (e.g. Poker) everyone is likely to lose in a casino (eventually).

The point I was making was that she wasn't born with the surname Callard. If she wished to change her name to a stepfather's, then she had a choice of about four. And chose the one most meaningful to casting directors.

It's not important, and definitely not worth going back to check the dates.

I might add that she came across well, and I'd say she's a better, more natural, actress than her mother. She's also prettier, in a subdued way.

I get that but, I don't like the double standards where she could claim total innocence and that she was doing something against her will.

Double standards? He's about 30 and she's a 15 year old virgin. Wrong on every level, and I would say exactly the same if was a 15 year old boy and an older woman.

    Heh, I thought that too.

He could almost play his own father now, if you know what I mean.

I'm gutted this is coming to an end, been to glued to it from the beginning, although I wasn't sure when I seen Jason Manford was going to be in it, but I was very surprised.

600 on black would have won him another 600 so he could have put the 600 original stake away and theoretically had a winning streak just betting on red and black and covering 0 paid everything off and still come clean , but that wouldnt have shown the viewer the evils of the gaming industry

I also agree with how brilliant it's been :)

Jason Manford has surprised me too. He's been effortless in the role - a sign of a good actor I think. It will be interesting to see if he does any more dramatic roles in the future.

I don't think it's been as good as people on here have been making it out to be. I preferred The Syndicate. I felt that pulled off the individual stories within one overarching story set-up better than Ordinary Lies (and some of those lies haven't been ordinary) has. A Lottery win is more interesting than a missing bloke. The quality is on a par with similar daytime series e.g. Moving On too.

Judging by that recap, they're going to re-explore Tracey/Viv. Not sure if Viv will appear though.

Beth's reaction is a bit similar to when Tanya found out about Max's affair.
