Found this very interesting article about some recent research where they compared dolphin and human DNA. Fascinating!

Also found this lovely site

I like the idea of dolphins as "sea people". :)

I suppose anything that gives your dolphin hunting arguments that little extra emotive kick is going to find favour with you suzzle :)

Suzzle I know you are trying to inform people of this hunting campaign, but I don't think you're doing it any favours by turning it into a comedy.

Fish have trumped dolphins in the cuteness stakes as they are known as Sea Kittens.

Yeah, why is the only dominant species on the planet always the center of attention? That really boggles the mind.

Oh lighten up! :) It is a VERY interesting article which I thought I'd share and the second one is just a bit of fun. There's enough doom and gloom in this world. You seem to see ulterior motives in everything. Smile and have a nice day!

    Sea people?

    lol

At the end of the day they're just big fish, or to use the proper term "marine mammals". Nothing more.

Don't know about dolphins being sea people, but the most amazing sea creature in everything from design to ability is the shark. We do tend to kill too many of those every year too.

No, they are highly intelligent mammals with as much intrinsic value as any other lifeform. Humans tend to believe that the fact that they can alter their environmentto suit themselves makes them somehow more important than the other species unfortunate enough to share this planet with them, but it isn't actually true. We are just land mammals, nothing more.

The "sea people" thing was only meant as a bit of fun but I do agree sharks and many other marine species are being having a horrible time at the moment. The seas are being decimated by factory fishing and bottom trawling etc.

Shark finning, where they just kill the sharks for their fins for shark fin soup is an evil practice, The fins are sent to China for the restaurant trade.

    From wiki
According to wildlife conservation much of the sharks' fin trade uses fins cut from living sharks, called finning.[3] Because shark meat is worth much less, the now finless and often still-living sharks are thrown back into the sea to make room for more of the valuable fins.[3] In the ocean, the sharks either die from suffocation or are eaten because they are unable to move normally.
Shark specialists estimate that anywhere between 38 million-100 million sharks are killed for their fins, annually

Dolphins don't have to work for a living.

Apart from the odd bit of fishing, they get to play all day.

They creep me out. I was swimming in the red sea and a pack of them came towards me. Only little ones but there horrible up close, not cute at all. I can appreciate that they're intelligent but they're not very friendly looking up close. Not my type of 'people'. :p

Make your mind up. Either they're just marine mammals, nothing more and we're just land mammals, nothing more... or we're both something more?

Absolutely agree. My kids watch Deadly 60 in the morning before school and Steve Backshall reported that in 2007 (date of original transmission), 70 million sharks were killed. I was completely numbed by this figure, totally, totally shocked. The ratio of shark related human deaths to human related shark deaths in 2007 was 1:70,000,000.
