Am I the only one that was suprised when he stated 176GB per second was better than 1088GB per second, but previously stated that once the eDRAM was mastered it would unlock the true potential.
Is it actually possible Sony have gone over simplified this time around?
Why did he have to make that comparison, it just worries the uneducated amongst us - like me
Thats the point,we are the Uneducated ones(at least in this field),they know what they are doing;):)
I did this too but ended up listening to the full thing.
Very interesting listen, especially about how they had a choice of GDDR5 or DDR3 with eSRAM (Xbone route) but developers told him they wanted one pool of unified memory and they went that way.
It's impressive how he has created such a high spec system in a box that's a little bit bigger than the PS3 slim for such a low price point.
I also have never heard the phrase "Time to triangle" before but once explained it was evident this was what let the PS3 down which is why x86 makes sense.
Whats crazy about the RAM thing is that the 360 had unified memory which made it a lot more forgiving than the PS3, but now xbone has gone down the more restricting route.

It's what the games developers wanted. For comparison, XBox One has 32MB of eDRAM but it's only 192GB/s. Presumably to afford the much faster 1088GB/s Sony would have had to reduce the amount of it to much less than 32MB. It would have been consequently much harder to use well.
As it is, Sony's 8GB main memory is 176GB/s which is only slightly slower than Microsoft's 32MB fast memory, and that's if Microsoft's fast memory can actually achieve a sustained 192GB/s. It was originally rated for only 102GB/s, and the fastest anyone's got in the real world is 133GB/s. So as far as bandwidth is concerned, Sony wins.
A bigger worry is that Sony's memory has worse latency. I have no idea how that will pan out. Arguably Microsoft has made a better trade-off for a general purpose home hub media entertainment centre thing, and Sony have made a better trade-off for a games console. But that's just a guess.
The man is so honest and humble. I wonder if that comes from not actually being a Sony employee, in terms of not being afraid to talk openly rather than use a large amount of gloss.
I'm unsure if this video was posted at the time but it seemed to pass me by. It is 90 min chat between Mark Cerny and Shuhei Yoshida in April this year - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvLWxgNDklo
It's a good watch for any fans of Mark and Shu out there.
It largely features Andrew House talking but was still an interesting video. Do these type of videos ever appear with other developers? I have seen a few with Sony people but that is it.

Yeah you don't see as many with others, Sony seem more passionate about there product than most but I guess that's why they are a fan favourite ATM.

Well he did say that he's Bi, so you might get the opportunity to find out..... oh sorry, he said bilingual. You'll never know!
But have you seen titanfall?
Conversation over!
Unless we change our mind tomorrow.

Thanks for that! I do wish ign would post the full thing rather than 3 parts.
Mark looks nervous, hardly makes eye contact and keeps looking at the guy's cup!

Thanks for the link.
Does anyone else get issues with IGNs HD streaming?
Watching the same videos on youtube I can watch HD no problem but IGN just constantly buffers.

They both sound that they have learned a lot in the last 20 years and the PS4 is a combination of that experience.
I like that Shu buys all consoles at launch (well two of them)
What??? He buys!! Doesn't Sony give him a complimentary one
Non Sony consoles I was talking about
