JM said " I can't help but feel that with most Microsoft apps now available on other platforms, there's less need than ever to have a Windows phone even if you're using Windows on a PC."
One major redeeming quality of Windows Phone is in the baked-in hardware Trusted Platform Module, and the extensive security, plus the remote management features for Enterprise.
For most casual users these features are invisible, but, for 1.7% of us they seem to be important.
But Microsoft, as with BlackBerry are swimming upstream against millions of users for whom the only mantra is Apps, apps, apps.
WP works exceptionally well for me, the lack of frequently updating apps being a bonus, not a deficit. WP 8.1 Denim is pretty excellent as it stands, I think.
I watch my chums with £40+ a month plans and premium Android phones and wonder just what it is they are getting for £480 a year that I am missing out on with my £50 dual-Sim Lumia. Status symbols?
I have to ask how is that a bonus? Thats what drove me away, apps like O2 Tugo that just don't work, Instagram thats buggy and hasn't been updated in a year. Or Pocketcasts that is also buggy as hell and they haven't updated since June.
I'd be more than happy with WP if its current apps where the same as they are on iOS but they are like beta apps, just thrown out there without much effort put into functionality.
I assume most companies have now found other solutions, so can Microsoft get back those Enterprise customers?
When WP7 came out, many companies were holding on to WM and devices were still being made and sold, albeit under the radar for most of the tech press.
I can't help but feel that with most Microsoft apps now available on other platforms, there's less need than ever to have a Windows phone even if you're using Windows on a PC.
Actually, what I m seeing is companies migrating to windows environment. Tesco and Britvic as examples, from memory.

I know of one company moving to Windows Phone from blackberry. One reason was the deliberate lack of apps stops employees playing games instead of working!!
An article of someone testing an Insider build version on a Lumia Icon ? Really?
I m not going to spend too much time on this point. Like in The PC/Tablet version, windows 10 will always be supported and upgraded on a regular basis and that will give you the attitude of coming here and say that the version released in 2 months time, proves that todays version was incomplete, was lacking quality, etc, etc.
Not sure about you, I actually have been using it on a L920 and been really happy with it. Pretty decent quality to me with a similar experience to the PC version. At the stage it is today, well worth the upgrade from 8.1, at least for me!
I take Paul Thurrot's opinion above any example you can give me, any day of the week (Someone else already on his thread mentioned him as a reference). Paul is very close to MS and very critical of them when necessary and not afraid of doing so. He has done it in relation to windows mobile in the past, the same way that he now says WM feels as robust and solid as iOS and Android, if not better, with the big negative being the lack of apps. However he concludes that, with W10M, MS might have arrived too late for the party. The next 12-24 months and the rumoured surface phone will clarify that.
W10M will never catch up with iOS on market share, but having said that, I also think that Microsoft will be happy to have a share of the market that is decent enough to keep them in the mobile segment. I actually see a lot more scope on W10M to succeed in Enterprise side, if I m honest. I know a few and high profile companies in the UK that changed to Windows Mobile and surely a few more are in the pipeline.
And if you watch/listen to Windows Weekly you will have heard him say this stuff more than once.
I have been using W10M until very recently on a 930. My experience there is what my previous posts have been based on. That, plus what I have read from pretty much every Microsoft focused journalist - including Paul Thurrott.

Have you got even a clue of what Paul is addressing on that?
One of the big concerns Paul always had is that MS releases updates (Mobile and PC) without detailing what are on those, just general notes. If you were a regular follower or a podcast listener you would know that, but clearly, you are not.
If you really listen to the Podcast, the words I have mentioned above (as robust and solid as iOS and Android) are not mine, those were his words. But again, you would know if you listened to Window Weekly. Its down there a few podcasts ago. Go and find it, you might get up to speed with other stuff both him and Mary Jo talk about.
What's your other point that it is confirmed? That MS pretty much shuts for Xmas? No updates till January (even I mentioned a couple of posts above)?Any one denied that?
Actually Tomorrow morning there will be a lot of MS at work ensuring that all those new shiny Xbox One'S being turned on for the first Time have a great experience on line. Again on the podcast released yesterday..
I have been at the 950 Launch in London, have maintained contact with pl that bought the phone (that are also Insiders) and they are pretty happy with the releases that have been coming out. That is enough for me.
Last time I address this and you. That is not what is thread is about. Merry Xmas.
It's actually pretty much what this thread is about...
Yes, Paul did raise his concerns about release notes in that article - but it isn't the only thing he said. Namely, that W10M is not finished.
Before you come back with "but they're improving it!" - that's meant to be new features, not releasing buggy software then fixing it after.
I admire that you want to defend WP so much - but there's no getting away from the fact it should be in a much better state than it is now before it was actually released on new phones available to the general public. It isn't doing the platform any favours.
It's quite amusing to see someone defend the indefensible. WM10 is irrelevant to 95% of the population, which is a shame really as what do I get as a second device now?
I have a Nokia Lumia 930 and have installed Windows 10 Mobile on it, a couple of builds ago. It runs smooth and have had no issues with it.
You have to note that it takes a day or 2 for the phone to fully settle before reviewing or judging it.
I've been trying to get my hands on a lumia 950 XL from carphone for some time now, but everytime I do, seems they've sold out and put my on the pre-order list again.
In a couple stores I visited they say they've sold all their allocation within 1-2 days before they receive new ones.
I've cancelled my pre-order and will wait when the phone is properly in stores, possibly getting a better deal. Says the phone is now on pre-order until 19th Jan.
It's actually pretty much what this thread is about...

There's Paul review of the 950 below, BEFORE the updates came out
Can you spot the criticism of W10M? Only one phrase there and a very positive one about the OS. If he found it buggy he would have said it. He also talked about in the Podcast, if you bother to listen to it, which clearly you don't.
Not defending anything its about not being accurate or putting wrong/out of context inf., like trying to prove the point that w10m is buggy based on review of an insider version OS in a Lumia Icon, and then concluding that it is not buggy , it isn't quality (in the link above Paul says quite the contrary) and it isn't complete.
I have been very close to Windows Weekly team plus some others for years, to know that there is a lot of noise around problems that are just not there. I've seen people complaining about features missing when actually they just moved to a dif. place. Then they are still unhappy because they are not where they used to be. The people that I know bought the 950 at launch are really happy with it and these are hard core fans, they know the phone and the OS inside out.
Finally : Thread is about W Mobile market share and the fact that IDC says they will never be big again. If you think that is because in your opinion, the OS lacks quality, it's buggy and it is incomplete, you do need to go a few years back to understand what the issue is. Hint: it's not W10M.
Unless you want to debate what's in the thread title, NOW I m really done with you.

You expect us to take Thurrott's opinion over seasoned phone reviewers??? Sorry, but no. WM10 is a a fluster cluck of the highest degree. It's a real shame but Microsoft just don't have a mobile operating system anymore that is viable.

We're thinking of migrating from Blackberry Curve's to Windows Phone. Android is too inconsistent for our IT department and iPhones are too expensive.
Someone? That's Peter Bright!
And Paul Thurrott has said no such thing. In fact, as of 17th December he agrees with me: https://www.thurrott.com/mobile/windows-phone/63125/microsoft-releases-yet-another-cumulative-update-for-windows-10-mobile-1511
