It's just tragic that surgeons are allowed to mutilate people if the price is right. What reputable surgeon would own up to doing that to him? He was a beautiful looking man, he already looked androgynous before he started. RIP

Absolutely. He could probably have been a model back when his face was untouched. He ruined his face. He went from having a model type face to having a face that stood out in a very bad way.

Couldn't agree more. Yes, they choose to go through the surgery but when it gets to this extent, there's obviously some deep insecurity/ dysmorphia. A plasic surgeon with any degree of integrity would say 'Look mate, you don't need this work. You're sound as you are. Sort your head out.' I remember seeing the state of his pus-filled lips when some procedure went wrong. I wonder if the practitioner responsible is still working...I'd not bet against it.

Anyway, another sad loss for this year. I wasn't a great fan of his personality but I loved his iconic record and music in general. He was a fine looking person before all this sh*t, too.

I wonder what went through his mind when he looked at old photographs. I find it so disturbing because it's like something from a horror film, a beautiful person turned into a freak.

I'm probably oversensitive as one of my children had a cleft lip and palate and the surgeries have made such a difference to her emotionally and physically.

The plastic surgeons and maxillofacial surgeons are heroes in my eyes.
It's hard for me to understand why someone would want to specialise in butchering people when they could do a lot of good like repairing cleft lip and palate in third world countries

All that botched surgery was bound to take it's toll.I never understood what he was trying to aim for, maybe he didn't either.

    RIP Pete

Like Michael Jackson, it's body dysmorphia. Nothing wrong with what he looked like in the 80s.

Really? His so called 'wit and humour' seemed to entail endlessly bitching and mocking others which, considering the state he ended up in was hypocritical in the extreme, he seemed as ugly on the inside as he ended up on the outside.

I think it came to a point his face became so grotesque (yes, true, unfortunately), he was trying to make it look normal as opposed to aiming for any beauty effect.

Then why stoop to his level with a nasty comment. He didn't kill anyone and wasn't a paedo. His only crime was a vicious tongue.

He was fabulous and he was very successful. Would be swap his 57 famous years for 75 years of obscurity? Doubt it.

Too many general anaesthetics weaken the heart, which is probably what happened here.

    57 famous years?!

Dead or Alive only had four top 20 hits in the UK (five if you count the pointless re-release of YSMR in 2006) before their success dried up after just a few years. Someone who is "very successful" wouldn't go on Big Brother.

I wasn't a fan at all (he supported animal cruelty) but 57 is no age nowadays.

I guess he would've like my comment then and probably hated all the 'rip he was such a good egg' type remarks.

I meant the original comment, I don't disagree with your description of him. There will be a lot of us resting in hell if being catty is a mortal sin.

I was shocked to hear of his death, 57 is young. However, I concur with those who say, Acid tongue Pete wouldn't appreciate those who lament his untimely passing. Moreover, whilst being an appreciated "eccentric character" , to some he was quite unpalatable.

The man lived a life and died. I wish him a peaceful rest. x

RIP he seemed to be a very mixed up individual on CBB ten years ago. This kind of body obsession is a mental disorder, and you see it getting worse in our society all the time. Sad

I wasn't an active fan either but I always like to make room for eccentricity and those who fly their own self-absorbed flag. And in a world of bland people-pleasers, Pete was one of those. He lived his life and, as much as that life was seriously f*cked up, it was still the life he choose.

So RIP to him and hope that the God he believed in, that might not recognise him, actually exists, and welcomes him 'home'.

What a sad way to end. He was due to appear on loose women today. Did they mention it?

I was shocked when I saw those photos as well; he didn't look well, did he? Plus he smoked...:(

Heart attack, eh? He was a smoker, too, wasn't he?

Heavy smoker by all accounts, and going by the most recent photos, overweight too. Even without the obsessive surgery, in a 57 year old man you don't have to puzzle over this one too much.

I'm not convinced that this is true. He was obviously obsessed with his image and how he looked.
Even with outrageous or outspoken people I suspect that it is often the case that deep down they have the same insecurities and concerns about how they come across to people as many people do.

I don't think she would even be on his radar.

I still remember her vicious blog rant about him, Galloway and Barrymore. It was pure bile. And this was on Christmas Day FFS! :o

TBH though i'm no fan of any of those mentioned, she definitely had cause to rip into them. The way they treated her, particularly their combined character assassination in the BB kitchen was disgusting. Pure bullying & made me feel very uncomfortable. Considering how old they were in comparison to her. And none of the three were hardly angels themselves, particularly Barrymore.

Burns & his wife Lynn were a well known double act in London prior to most of the major surgery & Pete swapping the fence for blokes later on. You didn't mess with them.

Yes, a true eccentric, gr8 looking in anecdote, but the reality was quite sad & bitter.

Wherever he is, I hope he's treating the monkeys better... Or maybe they're wearing HIS skin?
