she knocks the spots off every british singer and most amercian singers too.
I really don't regqard the noise that she makes as singing.
And no, it's not that she's successful. I like lots of performers who are more successful than she will ever be. I just despair that the record buying public have bought into this tuneless wailing.
Hayley is very good, too - she didn't get as far as she should have in Pop Idol, same for Jessica Garlick (was she Idol, or Popstars, I forget?). Hayley's lacks the production of Leona's, but she's really great.
I worry for Leona, I do. Everything's great right now, but when the album takes off in the USA I don't think there's any doubt she'll be accused of 'ditching' the UK, and off chasing the "yankee-dollar", and forgetting her roots a la Natasha Bedingfield, which I don't think will be the case. I don't think people realise that artists generally have quite little say in where they are - they can request specific things I imagine, but generally as their bosses, the record company make the ultimate decisions for them?
Another here who much prefers Hayley's version of BL. She has much better diction & vocal control & I much prefer the song sang simply without imo all the unnecessary warbling. For me it all that going up & down the scales just detracts from the emotion of the song.
Let's Leona remains happy with what she's wished for. She will be successful but at a price. Taking this American contract will mean she relinquishes any control. She's little more than a voice to hire & a puppet to achieve Simon Cowell's dreams.
The public can be very fickle. She'll have to spend a lot of time in the states to make a big impression there so it remains to be seen if her fans here will be quite as suportive when she returns especially if the rumours are right & there are no plans for her to tour here until 2010. Natasha & Joss Stoe learnt to their cost what happens when you turn your back on your home fans.
I cannot stand her...that simpering "princess di" look...all innocent....she makes my skin crawl and I was overjoyed that she did not win any Brits last night...she did not deserve them....and before anyone jumps on me...it is MY opinion and I am entitled to it
Mine too. I just can't watch her or listen to her. If she comes on the radio or telly they get switched off or channel changed. I really can't understand why some like that awful caterwauling. She sounds more like she's doing vocal exercises (badly) than performing a song and is devoid of even a hint of sparkle. She might as well be doing her ironing - unless she enjoys that:rolleyes:..
I personally think Leona's voice is fantastic- its so powerful and moving.
However, i think that Simon Cowell and crew are not handling her talent as they should- they shouldnt give her constant middle of the road ballads to do and they should be encouraging her to develop her depth and songwriting ability so that she can completly display her soul through her music- with uptempo songs as well as the slower songs- neither mariah or whitney survived on ballads alone

I agree. It's not Leona's own ability that I don't rate,...it's the actual music to which she's singing to which are very boring songs.
It's just extremely dull music.
I think Leona has the potential to become one of the best selling singers ever.. if she doesnt allow Simon Cowell etc to stiffle her creatively and push her down the road of endless repetitive ballads
Leona Lewis is one of the best singers Britain has ever produced in my opinion. And like in true British fashion, we prefer to bring down our own than reward them for their achievements. I hope she goes to the US and stays there for as long as she wants, they appreciate talent.
As for all the people saying they can't understand how people can like her, it's called a difference of opinion. I bet loads of people dislike music you like as well. And that Hayley Evetts version was so dull. Her voice is average at best. Again, my opinion.
Leona is a world class singer to those who don't think so are kidding themselfs, if she won at the brits then this thread would'nt of existed.
She is here to stay so get used to it!.
But when you've heard one tortured over-emoting performance from her, then there's not much left. She's not particularly interesting as a person or a performer.
To be honest, I don't think she will bother the Brits panel again....
Not unless she comes back with an album of her own material or at least co-written by her, she won't.;)
Apart from her sales, there wasn't any reason why she ought to have been nominated this year as far as I can see, unless they've added a 'Best sales' award while I wasn't looking;)
She reminds me of Paul Potts - who is actually a very mediocre singer when compared to 'real' opera singers - but had loads of exposure via a TV talent contest and fooled the largely ignorant (re. opera singing anyway) GBP that he has a phenomenal voice. On such a programme as that- yes, his voice did stand out as good - but it all depends on what you are comparing to.
Leona has a good voice, so does Adele, so does Duffy - so do 100s of backing singers. It's the TV coverage, along with the decision of Simon Cowell and SBMG to make her a huge star, that's what's got her where she is at the moment. I'm just not sure she can keep that position when someone first calls out 'Oi, the empress has no clothes on' so to speak:)

Can I borrow that crystal ball please?
Hear, hear!

Listen to her.... she has a pleasant voice (much prefer Hayles on that link BTW) but superstardom? For what?
Waaaaaaayyyyyy OVERATED!!!
