Blackberry Curve 8520 charging problem

Hi,
I've had my Blackberry for just under a year and until now I've had no issues. I was charging it last night and once it got to 60%, the charging icon stopped appearing as if it wasn't charging. However, having left the phone on to see if it holds the battery power, the battery level hasn't changed from 60% once suggesting that perhaps it is charging and the phone just isn't displaying it.
Does anyone know what I should do assuming it's a software issue as opposed to a hardware issue with the battery?
