If Mr Moyles left the Breakfast show...

...who would you like to see replace him?

I know there's threads with idealistic choices throwm in, but once and for all - if Chris was to leave in 2011 then firstly who would you like to replace him on the Breakfast show (and if it's a current 1FM DJ then who's going to replace them on their show?) and where do you think Moyles would go?

To kick things off - I don't think anyone at radio 1 is ready to replace him. Not a fan of Mills when he covers - he's not talky enough, and as much as I love Coxy I think I love her doing the show with Dave and the team alongside her. If anyone, I'd like to see a bit of a double act (but billed as one like Colin and Edith were) doing it. Maybe greg and someone else?

As for where he'd go - I don't think he'd stick around at R1. His format wouldn't fit anywhere else on the schedule. Also don't think he'd be happy on commercial radio either. However if he went to the States then he'd prospectively lose his Ch4 deal for Quiz Night. Maybe a show on Sirrius but broadcast from London?

I agree about Sara, she isn't bad on her own - listen to her when she covers Fearne and when she covered Jo Whiley, some of her features are quite good and she's quite "wacky" but I think she can speak way too much sometimes and it becomes a bit boring.

She works well with Chris's team, she has the same chemistry almost as what Chris does too.

As for who could replace Moyles, Sara could do it but I don't know about anyone else. Mills is much better at drive but I wish he'd get rid of the Oh What's Occurring and bring something new to the show. (Not listened in a few months so apologies if I'm wrong and he has already binned it :p)

Ph Whats occuring has been binned - if Chris went it would have to be a new thing with a new team but Radio 1 seem to be splitting double acts e.g. Colin/Edith - Fearne/Reggie - Chappers and Dave so maybe they dont see it as the way forward?

What ever happens a team is needed for it to work as its like waking up to 5/6 friends. The production team need to be on air.

They could have Natalie from the showbiz news, coxy, someone new, 2 producers

Whata bout Jo whiley or is she to old for it? I love her shows

There's no way he'd go to the US. I don't think they'd take to him.

sadly there is a lack of talent ready to step up. im sure a new breakfast show would see listening figures decline just like they did when radio 1 went through a number of different presenters in the 90s.
i knowi will get shot down for saying this but i think moyles would of gone already if there was an obvious replacement. moyles has lasted 7 years so far???? how long does the breakfast show host usually last?

I think they would struggle to get a decent replacement, only one up to the job at the moment is Scott Mill's but he's not perfect.

They tried having female presenters (ladette) with Ball/Cox which failed spectacularly, Ball was always apologising for being rubbish, Cox always slurred her words

The formula they need is a male main presenter, an on-air team that the presenter can bounce of, guests from tv/film/music, 40/60 talk/music mix

    Pre 1993 - 3 to 6 years
    1993-Moyles - 3 months to 2 1/2 years

Moyles at breakfast bought stability to Radio 1 - he really was "The Saviour". You could argue Radio 1 is too stable now - the token week of specialist DJs in Jan being a rare exception to a far too restricted daytime playlist, and the reluctance to move the schedule forward. But really I think this is because Andy Parfitt needs to move on, less so Moyles.

I still think he might last 10 years at breakfast, not only because its a strong show, but also because there simply is no one else to replace.

If there's nowhere for the BBC to put Moyles (doesn't fit on 6music, R2 or 5live), and there's no-one fit to replace, why move? Would the BBC really want to lose Moyles to commercial (Absolute probably more likely than Capital) until the idea of him on R2 became pallatable? They did with Steve Wright and Chris Evans, can't see it being ideal.

When Moyles does leave breakfast I can see it being because of "TV commitments" (One Show?) and moving to a weekend slot on R1 and specials for R2 to slowly move him in there. But I still think thats 3 years away. In which case any speculation on his replacement is irrelivant right now.

I genuinely hope that if and when Moyles does go, that they do not replace him with Mills, I think Mills works much better during Drive, but he is absolutely Dire when he does Breakfast and absolutely kills the slot stone dead!

Sara Cox would be a wicked replacement. I'd imagine they'd hand it to Scott Mills though if/when it happens

Considering Moyles replaced Coxy on Breakfast. I wonder what the change around with the appreciation of Cox (erm!) I enjoy Cox more than her breakfast stint all those years. Is it because shes more laid back than her laddish behaviour before?

Simon Mayo, Mike Read, Mike Smith, Chris Evans, DLT or Noel Edmonds.

Alan Carr, Graham Norton or Dale Winton.

Like him or loathe him, and I'm firmly in the latter, you have to admire what Moyles has achieved in his years at R1. Granted the figures were down because the show was (for want of a better word) mistreated but whatever you think of the content - his formula and execution is first class.

I would genuinely listen to him for years and years to come, because his version of a zoo format show is brilliant, and has yet to be copied by any other station successfully.

He's said in plenty of interviews that he loves his job, and the position he holds now is the one he's dreamed of since day 1. I don't think he'd want to voluntarily leave unless he started to get repetitive...

Great reasoned post. Only thing I would disagree with is the fact I would firnly fall into the former camp.

He is technically a passionate, professional, "nerdy" DJ. And that comes across.

When he leaves Radio 1 I think I will as do not listen to much else on there these days. Though the only one person I could see taking over internally is Nick Grimshaw. Whilst initially a TV name, he has proven himself laye night from the bits I have heard. I suspect we will see him covering day shifts more this year.

His last day should be interesting, I can't imagine how long his final jingle will be considering his first into the breakfast show was over 5 minutes.
