Bauer think turning the local FM's into a Scotland and Northern England FM network slowly bit by bit that nobody will notice it. Well they are certainly very wrong on that score.

Richard Allan and Alan Edwards can relate far better to the Scottish listeners far more than the Manchester based DJ's that are presenting on the Your Music Your Life stations in Scotland at the same times.
At one stage Magic North became alligned with Magic London and was a mistake, from this interview in 2011 Dee Ford seems to say local broadcasting is important to Bauer and is critical of rival Global.
    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/dee-ford-a-local-radio-star-with-an-eye-on-the-global-market-2298010.html
Listeners in Liverpool, apparently, are hostile to Cheryl Cole and her music and less enamoured of indie bands than audiences up the road in Manchester. "When you are listening to a radio station you have to feel really comfortable with the mood of the room," she says. "Glasgow is quite a gritty market and the style of presentation on that station is very different from Edinburgh, a more cosmopolitan and softer city where the style of presentation and type of presenters are very different. They are 40 miles apart but 4 million miles apart in terms of cultural differences."
Bauer seem to want to keep local high quality weekday peaktime listening on theYour Music Your Life Place (BigCity) stations, but are trying to save money (and keep profits) in ways like reducing Freeview bitrates and more networking off peak times on FM starting October 3rd, and also it has started on the GHN and Magic North AM stations where listening is a fraction of the peaktime FM Place stations where weekday local programming will remain.

Hi. It is my understanding that from 3 October:

on the former Big City stations on FM:

    local shows will run

    Monday-Friday 0600-1400 and 1500-1900 only
    Saturday 1200-1800 (not confimed)
    Sunday 1200-1600 (?)
    All other output from Manchester

    On Magic North

    Regional shows:
Monday-Friday 0600-1000 (Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds) ONLY
Saturday 0600-1000 (Leeds and Hull) (local) ONLY
    All other output via Newcastle

Is the above correct? If not, please can someone clarify? Thanks

And, what is the current arrangements in Scotland on FM and MW - FM is mainly the same but I think there are a few differences under the new arrangements. I have now forgotten the source of MW Scottish output so if someone can clear this up I would be most grateful. Thanks

It's desperately disappointing if more and more output is going to be coming from Manchester.

Another Manchester based show replacing Bob Malcolm's would be terrible if all of the Scottish Your Music Your Life stations programimg mirrors Northern England.

Unbelievable that Radio City could be a 4 hour station on Sunday and all the local programming on Saturday will be Sport.

Many people won't notice though as I think they really aren't trying in the slots now. I listened last Saturday morning and to be honest its like listening to an Ipod or a Now Album with a load of ads. Zero content from the presenter, no listener interaction in what I would have thought was a decent slot for a local station. Many of the ads seemed to be for charities and not local businesses.

Turned to Clyde and it was the same - Now Album music with ads.

Perhaps Bauer have given up with their local listeners - It will sound just as dull as now but it will be cheaper for them.

    • ‘Boogie and Dingo’, Saturday mornings 9-12 extends from Scotland-wide to also broadcast across the North of England. After huge success across Scotland, the boys bring their irreverent humour to England, promising to give kids the chance to shine in ‘Wrong to Be Right’ - leaving their parents well and truly in the shade!

    • In:Demand with Stu Tolan will now broadcast 7-10pm Sunday through to Thursday, with a special ‘uncut’ version for Sunday nights, showcasing the biggest future hits of the year, music from new, emerging talent, as well as artist interviews and live sessions from across the UK.

I take it you mean HE comes from Glasgow because the show certainly comes from Manchester.

Thanks. It says at the bottom about Satudays 1800-2200 on Clyde 1 only being different - still a local show - and 2200-0100 on Metro and TFM (which is the same station now really), that will also be a local show from Newcastle.

But apart from that my above observation is correct.

Not a good move - they may as well hand back all the local licences of stations that are already on DAB. It seems such a waste to broadcast the same programme on every transmitter - these stations were set up to provide a local radio service - now it is a tiny fraction of the output that is.

For Radio City, for example it is only local for 70 hours a week out of 168 - just 41.66% of broadcast time - what a disgrace for a station that used to be 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year with locally produced news 24 hours every day.

In 1985 when mot journalists were on strike on 7 August, Radio City did at least have news that day.

    Disgraceful.

Commenting on the changes, Owen Ryan, Group Content Director, Bauer Place North of England and Scotland said, “Our new our weekend line-up signals a fresh new era for the Place Portfolio. It follows extensive research and delivers locally relevant shows mirroring the lives of our listeners in their local area, alongside the best UK wide talent, stars and entertainment shows to engage and excite our audiences when our audiences want them most on the weekends."

    Bullshit. That is all.

Sadly now commercial radio is aimed at females, who bring in the best paid ads from the ad agencies, therefore the bloke from Take me out will probably raise Sunday morning listening and increase ad revenue.

When did the evening specialist music shows on AM disappear and was there any explanation or comment by Bauer? From what I noticed, one week they were there, then they weren't. Personally I thought they sat uneasily on a station where Robin Galloway and Gina McKie are the big names.

In similar vein, I caught part of Bill Torrance's Sunday show the other weekend, His 'couthy Ayrshire' style was a real throwback to 1970s ILR (and STV). Like it or loathe it, again it seemed quite a gear change to Micky Gavin's chart show or, these days, Tom Ferrie.

The old policy of if (they think based on listening figures) it's unpopular, just suddenly pull the plug springs to mind.

I would hesitate to class the music played on GHN as AM music and the music played on Your Music Your Life as FM music. Think about it most of the music thst was restricted to the FM stations in the 1990's is now extensively played on AM though AM have always played the pick of the latest hits. The specialist shows that were on GHN before they were suddenly ditched gave a false impression that it's all oldies on GHN.

The Classic Charts show with Micky Gavin was always going to be ditched to make way for the Tom Ferrie request show when GHN won one of the radio football contracts.

In terms of playlists re: Robin Galloway and Gina McKie they sit somewhere in between Your Music Your Life and the general GHN.

On GHN, Ally Bally and Richard Allan are in Jamaica for the mid morning show next week.

How high up the scale is Ally Bally on the GHN?

That's interesting that they're away to Jamaica, as 2 of the presenters on the Magic AM stations are as well, the midmorning and evening presenters, so the Scottish AM 's must be running the same comp as Magic North (England)!

So that's why Richard went out with him. There had to be some reason he has kept a job through all the changes.

They have been in recent weeks just due to the Referendum.

Bob Malcom is back to 9-12 this Sunday - ironically, his last show on Radio Borders before the new weekend schedule kicks in.

Sad to think that from next weekend the only local output on Radio Borders at weekends will be 2-6pm on Saturdays and 12-4pm on Sundays.

What about Wired? Is that getting binned? I'm sure they have just taken on it's new people for the year. Unless they slot that in back on Sunday 3-4pm or something.

Ryan Borthwick from Wired and the odd Saturday night show on RB is now going networked 1-6am on Sunday mornings from October.

Your guess is as good as mine. One of three possibilities - Wired moves back to Sunday 3-4pm; it goes to a weekday 6-7pm slot thus taking out an hour of Home Run (what wally at Bauer thought up that name for the drivetime show?); or it gets binned after this weekend. As far as I know, Wired is sponsored by Scottish Borders Council and so has to be aired.
