Bizarre case; the only thing I can think is that the assailant stole the phone opened it up and realised it was an MP's phone and flogged it to The Sun.

1: taking it to a frikking NEWSPAPER in the first place?
2: taking it to the frikking SUN NEWSPAPER????

but let's face it, whitehall and everywhere else governmental, is riddled with people who aren't GOOD ENOUGH to not do these things!

This story has had very little coverage in the media yet I think it is quite important and quite shocking in a number of ways.

I'm confused, the article say the phone was handed to the NewsPaper by a member of the public. Doesn't sound like it was stolen, I bet she left it somewhere, but she reported it as stolen for insurance purposes.
