Skype Help

Hi,
I downloaded Skype last week and so far it hasnt worked right at all.
The other person couldnt here me on call
the mic isnt working
now it isnt locating a mic
my laptop supposedly has a Im built Mic but it hasnt worked.
i tryed the call test on skype and it didnt work i couldnt here the recording and one skype help ive done everything they have suggested (made sure its not on mute ect)
Im thinking of getting a desktop or Headset mic which you just plug in.
Can anyone help?
