The idea of a Doctor Lite episode is not new to Doctor Who.
Back in the 60's, an extra episode was allowed in series three but as most of the cast were on holiday and it would have been too expensive to recall them all, the producers produced (as they do) an epsode called Mission To The Unknown (also known as Dalek Cutaway)
Basically this story was a prologue to The 12 episode epic Dalek Masterplan. It featured none of the regular cast (Maureen O'Brien who played Vicky had also departed by this point) and revolved around an agent called Marc Cory being despatched by Space Security to investigate a sighting of a Dalek ship on the Planet Kemble.
Cory discovers a plot to invade the Solar System is being hatched and makes a tape recording of various aliens planning to do the deed. He is discovered and killed but the Tape Recording is lost in the forest of Kemble waiting to be discovered.
This bore no relation at all with the next story, The Myth Makers which was set in ancient Greece and saw the departure of Vicky and the introduction of Katarina, but laid the background for DMP and wetted viewers appetites for what was to come 4 weeks later.
Ok - that out of the way, I ws wondering whether this concept could be used in the new series. Obviously it does not have to involve Daleks!!
But using the Doctor and Companion lite episode the lay the background for the grand finale could help a lot.
As an example in series three it could have been used to show how Mr Saxon came to power in the 18 months prior to TSOD/LOTTL.
Obviously the down point is that the title character does not appear but he made very little appearance in Love And Monsters and Blink.
I know that Turn Left and Midnight were great and relevant stories but I was just wondering whether anybody had an opinion on this?

Good thinking:)
He would raise a family in the Tardis, who would in turn grow old and leave to have their own adventures.
Finally, as an extremely old man, he would return to the place where it all started, handing the keys back to the dr. As a surprised dr and companion set off on their next adventure, the words "thank you" briefly appear on his psychic paper before disappearing for ever...
So you never warmed to Catherine then?
IMO she was simply astounding, and Turn Left is one of my all time favourite episodes now.
