A pet cat has caught the same bus regularly for four years.

Casper, which is 12 years old, boards the No3 service at 10.55am from outside his home in Plymouth, Devon, and travels the entire 11-mile route before returning home about an hour later.

    How sweet!

It reminds of a story my mother told me about the dog she had as a child. It used to follow the her & her brothers & sisters down to the bus stop every morning & get on the bus to go to the school with them. At the school gates it would cross the road to the bus stop on the other side & wait for a bus to take him home again (all on his own!). Then at 3.30ish it would trot down to the bus stop & catch the bus back to school & be waiting at the school gates to escort them home again.

My grandfather used to manage a dance hall & the dog would ask to go out every evening at about 10.00 pm. & go to a different bus stop & catch a bus into town & wait outside the dance hall & then escort my grandfather home again.

Apparently he was a wonderful & devoted pet & this was in the "olden days" when most dogs were just shut out in the day time to do their own thing & come home again when they were hungry. Not something we can do these days!

love the cat story, only thing i would be worried about is it being near a main road!

but my dad has a cat where his business and i still think it comes into the waiting room where the customers wait for their takeaways

I always wish I could attach a little camera to my cat's collar to see where he goes and what he does as he's started going walkabout (slinkabout) for long periods of time even though he's been neutered.

I dont know hat it's called but there's a camera you can get to put on dogs collars for just that reason. I saw it on Jonathan Ross's show, he had it on one of his dogs. The dog was small, like a pug or something, so I bet you could get one small enough for a cat to wear. It would defo be more interesting than watching what a dog gets up to.

I had a cat that used to follow me to the local shop - he used to trot along behind me, then when I went to cross the road he'd climb the nearest tree and wait for me there. The looks I used to get when standing by the road, looking up into a tree and seemingly telling it to 'stay there' I will never forget - surprised I wasn't carted off by the men in white coats.

When I crossed back after going to the shop he'd come down from the tree and follow me home again.

Oddly enough that was the only time he'd ever come near me.

If this cat has been doing this for four years, how is it that it's not been in the news before?

    Or has it been, locally?

    Nice story, nice cat.

    I loved that story:D

I used to have a cat that liked to take walks round the small town I used to live in, we'd often be told by neighbours they'd seen him out on his travels.
As far as I knew he never took the bus though;)

I would hate to see what my cats get up to.

My mum told us that they had 4 cats and loads of chickens when they were kids. They used to go to the woods (about 5 walkaway from the house) and play and take all the chickens and all the cats with them!

All the animals would just follow, never tried to run off and the cats never bothered the chickens. As soon as all the kids started heading back to the house they would all follow again.

Also a cat we used to have used to come on holiday (she lived till she was 18 but this instance was before I was born - se dies when I was 14). My parents loved going caravanning and they would just take her, let her out to do her own thing and she always came back.

    Cats are wonderful creatures. :D

    Lovely story, lovely cat. :)

I remember a similar story about a white cat a few years ago who caught the bus every day and got off a few stops later. :D

It is a lovely story, heartwarming, but personally I'd be worried sick if my cat was doing that, there are too many nasty people about. Nice of the bus company to look out for him too.

I hope he continues to catch his bus safely, he's a gorgeous boy. :)
