JUNIOR EUROVISION SONG CONTEST RETURNS TO UK AIRWAVES AS SCOTTISH RADIO STATION IS SET TO BROADCAST LIVE FROM UKRAINE
Edinburgh and Geneva, Thursday 21 November 2013 – Castle FM Edinburgh and the European Broadcasting Union have announced today that this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be broadcast live on 98.8 FM across Edinburgh and The Lothians on Saturday 30 November at 6pm.
This year’s Contest is in Ukraine, following their victory last year in The Netherlands with “Nebo”, sung by Anastasiya Petryk. Castle FM (castlefmscotland.com) will bring the two hour show to listeners in the Capital with an outside broadcast all the way from the National Place of Arts “Ukraina” in Kyiv, with commentary from BAFTA nominated commentator Ewan Spence and Eurovision expert Luke Fisher (from junioreurovision.tv).
“Junior Eurovision is a hugely entertaining show and I look forward to bringing every moment of the show back to the United Kingdom,” pointed out Ewan Spence, who also writes about the contest at Eurovision Insight (escinsight.com). “The broadcast also gives the station’s volunteers the experience of working with the EBU to bring a large-scale international broadcast to Edinburgh.”
“Junior Eurovision is all about bringing people together all over Europe,” explains Executive Supervisor Vladislav Yakovlev, “and we’re delighted that listeners in the United Kingdom will get a chance to be part of this year’s Contest, which brings together 12 competing countries, from Armenia and Malta, to Belarus and Sweden.”
The Junior Eurovision Song Contest is an international song contest organised by the European Broadcasting Union and has been held annually since 2003. Performers must be aged between 10 and 15 years old. It follows the same format as the Eurovision Song Contest, with postcards between songs, a large scale interval act, and countries being called by the hosts to award their ‘douze points’.
The United Kingdom entered into the Contest for the first three years, achieving third place in 2003, and second in 2004 with Cory Spedding’s “The Best is Yet To Come.” The last Contest to be broadcast in the UK was in 2005.
Castle FM’s Junior Eurovision coverage will start during the drive-time show on Monday 25 November, with reports from backstage at Kyiv throughout the week. A Eurovision special will broadcast on Friday 29 November at 3pm, and the live broadcast on Saturday 30 November at 6pm.

Isn't April 1st the date for Eurovision in Concert?
Although even one of your commentaries won't be enough to override the trauma of listening to 12 sets of screaming 8 year old devil spawns!
As for last year's winner "Nebo", that was an excellent piece of music. Let's hope there is something equally as good this year.
