I am slightly addicted to this program however, I have a question. Why are there so many brokers? If Fredrick is a broker, why does he throw parties for other brokers. Why do so many people get paid commission?

I love this show as well. Fredrik is so naughty. They invite other brokers to the viewings because they have clients looking for places to buy also. So they split the commission.
The only thing that truly bugs me is Fredrick's "cha-ching" he always seems to do in the talking head pieces.
I love his little cha Ching.
I also really like Ryan but wish he hadn't deliberately humiliated that poor girl in the apartment when she came back to do the modelling after their date. I was really disappointed in him.
I see! Thanks for that. The commission they make is obscene
Me too. I really liked him until he humiliated that girl like that. Now I think he's a selfish, narcissistic pig. And he wonders why he has no friends and was alone during hurricane Sandy with nobody to turn to. His family didn't even contact him to see if he was ok. Now we know why.
Love Luis and dont mind Ryan, think hes alright. The Ryan/model thing was nicely edited for tv.
The commission is obscene, but it pails into insignificance when you think that people are charging $50K to stage a house
The commission, is that what they get or does that go to the firm they work for and they get a salary? They say Ryans comission $xxxx, but I have a suspicion thats what their firm gets.
Yes the firm gets the commission and he gets a percentage of that plus a basic salary. Luis is a real firecracker. I am looking forward to the fight between him and Fredrick tonight. Looks like they throw their drinking glasses at each other and it gets physical.
hehe me to. Unfortunately I dont think it will get physical. Fredrick should do the right thing, and give Luis the money he spent on the party.
In the 'next time on Million Dollar Listing' clip it looks like Fredrick has given Luis a cheque but he rips it up and throws it back into Fredricks face. Hangbags at dawn.
I think it's staged (no pun intended), scripted, and they could even be jobbing actors which they seem to be (very common in NY esp those attending stage schools), in which case I won't be surprised.
All of these reality type shows are staged and 'scripted' to a certain extent. The participants are told to ham it up to camera and make stuff as dramatic as they can.
Thats one of the things I really dont like about him. Seems way to fake. The others arent as bad as Fredrick.
Fredrick and Ryan were both actors in a past life...Ryan was a soap actor (I think), whilst Fredrick was a gay porn actor.
There is also Million Dollar Listing Miami, which is worth catching if you can (not seen it on UK tv yet). Thats also enjoyable...only done one season so far.
Haven't seen the Miami version on UK TV yet. I've only seen the LA version on ITVBe but it's about 6 years old.
I started watching the LA version, but didnt like it as all. Miami one is good. NY is better though.
The LA one is too boring. They're all too nice. No characters in it like NYC.
As for it being 'staged', S1's Michael Lorber criticised the show for it when he left.
And another little thing I love about it, the episode titles. Yesteday's was "The Days of Licking Bricks Are Over"
Gawd New Yorkers are the most obnoxious people on the planet. They think they are so special and the world revolves around them. How wrong they are.
London and other cities have strong characters but not as obnoxious and in love with themselves like New Yorkers.
I think it is partly staged and also some key points are omitted. There was a big scandal with one of the buildings, the one where fredrick sold 5 units at full ask and they guy wanted more. Apparently, the building wasn't his to sell or something and they all fell through, but it was never followed up on the show.
And Luis photoshopping that apartment. I was shouting NO at the TV lol
It does seem strange that all the clients are oddballs. I think it's definitely set up that way. I do wonder if any of the sales are real or not. A strange way of doing business if they are. How do so many people have that kind of money to make a cash buy just like that.
