Is this a good price for a new fence?
I am in need of a new fence and only really have one tradesman in my area that does fences.
I need two 6 foot fence panels and four 3 foot ones, along with a concrete base of 6 inches for each, and 6 concrete posts. My old rickety fence is also being removed and some tree roots dug up.
I've been quoted £935 incl vat for the job. Is this a reasonable price do you think?
Has anyone had a fence put in recently of a similar nature? If so, how much did it cost?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

I'd have said nearer £400 absolute max and even that is pushing it. WOWEE!
Blimey, really? Thats less than half of what he's quoted me.
I dont know what to think now as he seemed so reputable.
Don't know about reasonable, but it is about right.....
That sort of price you have been quoted I would expect someone to charge as an emergency call-out if a fence has blown down and it would be in London's zone 1 area.
So for materials at a guess would be maximum £300.
It seems he's charging an awful lot on top of the raw material prices (especially as he'd be able to get them at trade prices)!
Are you sure this firm is the only one that do fences? Our builder will do them so it might be worth ringing around to see if a local builders can do it, or at least recommend someone. When we needed our loft hatch putting it and the damage from my OH's attempts at putting it in fixing (:D) we put it out for tender on a website. Highest price was £1000  and lowest was £400. Quite a difference for the same job. In the end we had a local builder do it and he only charged £150 so it really is best to look around.
Yep. I'd agree with this.
also if he knoes hes the only bloke in the area who does that job...fair play to him ...he would be daft not to charge more
That way you can do some research and weigh up if it's good or not. For what it's worth - it seems a bit high to me.

Thankyou for all your replies.
The price he quoted me is for two 5ft Ascot Lap panels and two 1ft concrete gravel boards, then four 3ft Ascot Lap panels with four 6 inch gravel boards. All these having concrete posts in between.
The old fence would previously be removed and small tree roots removed.
For another £70 he would upgrade the fencing to close board/thick board panels.
This bloke want near on a grand for the same plus 4 dinky ones and the digging up of a few roots?? He is having a geeeeerafe!
