Does anyone else remember the theme weekends Channel 4 broadcast in the 90s?
Gang Weekend: This was about street gangs and included the film, The Warriors. And documentaries about street gangs. From memory one of them was quite disturbing as one of the themes in one of the documentaries was about gang members taking their dogs to dog fights.
Gangster Weekend: About organised crime. I can’t remember what programming this involved. I just remember the programmes being introduced with specially made animations / interstitials. The animations were black, white and red and showed gangsters shooting at each other.
Prison Weekend: This included the film Scrubbers and documentaries about life in prison.
The Red Light Zone: A theme night of documentaries looking at the sex industry.
Sci-fi Weekend: This included a documentary called The Real X Files and a film about The Roswell Incident. Specially made idents showed the elevator in the Channel 4 building doubling as a spaceship and being flown away by an alien.
Zombie Night: Included the Evil Dead. I think they might have even shown Zombie Flesh Eaters.
