Sky Broadband Installation

I know that BT own and maintain all the telecom infrastructure but to be told that the earliest an engineer can install broadband is May 21st is simply ridiculous.
My preferred ISP is Sky but don't think I can really wait so long just for installation. (BT claimed they could do it in less than 2 weeks!)
Any suggestions or constructive advice is appreciated.

BT can "claim" anything but until they actually submit a request for an engineer (and they have to do the same as Sky - they don't get any preferential treatment) then the "less than 2 weeks" is a guess.
There may be work required to be done at the exchange or the cabinet to facilitate your install, which might explain the longer lead times.
Also, it's easter so staff may be on holiday and as such available engineers may be lower than normal.
So ur saying BT won't give BT a shorter time than sky?
I would say this is very naive
If Openreach are found to be favouring ANY communications provider of another, Ofcom would love to know about if you have examples.
Complain about unacceptable service. Tell Sky you'll go to another ISP, if they can't sort it out quicker than that.
We're talking about May 21st, not April 21st (last day of Easter). Waiting a month for a new broadband installation IMO is totally unacceptable.
i'm saying OPENREACH won't give any ISP preferential treatment.
openreach must treat every ISP the same.
you are naive if you think otherwise.
first world problems huh!
you are naive if you think otherwise.
provide some evidence to dispute it then, so we can pass it on to ofcom.
as they say... put up or shut up.
Actually, thats incorrect.
I used to work for BT broadband taking orders. We had a calender of which dates were available for install from Openreach at that postcode. So they could easily say it could be done within 2 weeks.
but those dates would also be available for all ISPs, not just BT broadband.
Openreach cannot favour any 1 particular ISP over another.
Well either the OP is being told nonsense by sky, or they must be giving BT the slots first.
or BT are talking nonsense....
unless the OP actually placed an order with BT broadband then how could they advise on an install slot.
Simple. You ring up, ask when you can have it at the earliest at your address, they check their installation calendar and tell you.
That's the way it worked when i worked there. Unless it's changed of course.
well something is amiss then.
one of the following must be true
- BT broadband is lying
- sky is lying - but then why would they if it results in them not getting subscription money earlier
- openreach are breaching regulations.
- something else is going on..... ie problem at the exchange or with the line that has only come up at the point of processing the order.
I've no idea. All i am saying is, BT can get a date just like any other ISP can by just looking at the install dates available for that postcode even before the order is complete.
If sky are saying over a month, yet BT are saying 2 weeks, i would be phoning them both back several times to see if the dates still come out as what was originally told.
They may not be be able to provision this or there may be a back haul issue , hence delay a few days ...
Started off on Day one with a download speed of 4.1 Mbps and now have a whopping 20.0 Mbps! after 4 days.
If Sky can maintain this level of speed and quality, I might even consider subscribing to their TV package.
