I really enjoyed The Bridge (original) when it aired last year. Not too sure of The Tunnel really, missed the US remake (that looked better than Tunnel tbh), hoping a UK channel picks it up here.
What are the rules of the thread going to be with regards discussion of the original version that could be spoilers for people watching this without having seen the original?
Going to try and be open minded to this, but from the the moment the opening scene, theme and sight of Saga with attitude appeared on The Bridge, in my mind nothing can compare. Just becoming impatient at the continued wait for .bröen 2 on BBC4.
The Sky screening will have both English & French spoken language so the non-English parts will be subtitled in the same way the US version is on FX. The Spanish-spoken bits are subtitled.
The reverse will be in place for Canal+.
Well, at least we'll finally get to see if the tourist books like Rough Guide et al, were right about Calais being a dump. Won't we?
I watched the first episode (via the on demand preview) over the weekend. The whole English/French language thing worked a lot better than I thought it would. And despite Calais, Folkestone and Dover not being the most glamorous settings for a drama, they were used to good affect in creating atmosphere. I’ll probably give this a go…

Me and OH watched and really enjoyed it - looking forward to episode 2:D
I'm really looking forward to this tonight, I hope it's good! Bron/Broen is very hard to beat, it was gripping. I just hope ours is as well written, acted and filmed.
I enjoyed this. Very similar to the original, at least as far as this episode went, but I liked the darkness of it all with just enough gentle humour to balance it out. Thought the sequence at the end with Elise cold-bloodedly continuing to question the journalist while the bomb ticked down in his car was very nicely done.
Looking forward to next week - hope it can maintain the high standards.
I've reviewed this episode and will probably do a summary at the end of the series, but probably won't do anything in between.
I'm probably mistaken. I thought the woman at the beginning standing next to Elise was the woman who looked after that strange little boy, Victor, in The Returned. Probably wasn't her, she looked a bit like her.
The humour is spot on, characters diverse and even minor characters are well drawn. The acting is brilliant - even Angel Colby whom I normally consider to be absolute Sh!te. The plot is complex enough to be interesting but not so complex it confuses. The French I struggled with a little (unlike The Returned) so had to use the subtitles but that was no chore.

Calais was nice when I visited it as a child in the late 70s/early 80s, it's horrible now (I was last there 4 years ago) because illegal immigrants use it as a base from which to try & invade Britain.
I must admit that if I had known that half of it would be in French with subtitles then I wouldn't have watched it, however I am glad that I didn't know as it looks promising, I've certainly never watched anything where a murder victim is actually two people with the head/torso of one & the legs of another, & I'm intrigued as to why the bottom half of a Welsh prostitute was put with the top half of a French politician - and disembowled to boot.

It's not highlighted yellow on Sky Atlantic HD for some reason
The On Demand version is HD and DD5.1 sound.
As is the version to be screened on Sky Atlantic/HD.

When does/did this premier on Canal+ in France?

Couldn't find any actress crossover on IMDB

Joseph Mawle who plays Stephen and Stephen Dillane who plays Karl both appear in Game of Thrones
Keeley Hawes is going to be in an episode.

All in all, a little gem of a show.
And I have a major girl crush on Elise

Depending on how closely this follows the original that will be made clear sooner or later
