Would you watch a British telenovela?

Has a UK TV channel ever tried to produce a telenovela? With the soaps struggling to remain relevant and often being stale, repetitive, unimaginative or sensationalist maybe its time to think of a new format.

Telenovelas have the same format as a soap (i.e - serial dramas shown most days of the week with a large cast) but they only last for a predetermined amount of time, usually less than a year, and have a fixed storyline rather than following an open narrative. They're somewhere between a soap opera and a drama series or movie - they follow the plan of a series/film but with the format of a soap.

I'm sure this is how Hollyoaks originally started in 1995, in that it was only on for a few months and it came in seasons rather than being shown all the time. Correct me if i'm wrong?

In response to what you were saying, I do think it would be a good idea to do that, especially with Eastenders which has pretty much run every storyline dry.
