ITV5 is the last thing freeview needs, They already repeat there shows on all there other channels.
I can see a need for different kids channels (if you have kids) & Yes another music channel would be nice but non stop music is not really worth it if channels want viewers they have to have shows as well.

I note the op uses his first ever post to make daft suggestion with a misleading title claiming his suggestion will happen.

It's just never going to happen, ITV don't even have enough stuff for an ITV5. Music channels are a non starter and the best chance of a new childrens channel is if a Milkshake channel from Channel 5 ever launches and timeshares with something else.

Let's look at itv's current portfolio demographic:
    itv - universal
itv2 - 'home of entertainment for young people'; typically 16-34 year olds/female orientated
itv3 - 'home of quality British drama'; over 45s
itv4 - 'the home of free-to-air sport, sports related shows and quality entertainment programmes aimed firmly and squarely at men but importantly that don’t have a keep-out sign for women' - typically 16-34 year olds/male orientated

citv - 'commission and acquire a range of programmes aimed at children up until the age of about 11' , 'looking to focus on shows for 4-9 year olds and live action and animation'.

    Source of the quotations: http://www.itv.com/commissioning/digital-channels/

So the gap in the current portfolio, is probably to suit 12 and over, Disney Channel/ABC1 alike programmes - for the not quite adult, teenager market, but not as crude as E4

Otherwise, going down the factual route, universal age group, commissioning the second time round showings of programmes from Nat Geo, Discovery, A+E (History, Crime, (ex-Bio)) - a channel that UKTV History used to provide and Yesterday partly does.

Whether it is worth for itv to do it is to be questioned? It must keep in their 4 step transformation plan: http://www.itvplc.com/transformation-plan

DTT space could be to remove itv2+1 or The Store for a channel that is 7 hours long. This shows that itv is content that it should focus on direct revenue of teleshopping, another chance to advertise.

Also when COM8 launches, perhaps a HD slot for itv, since itv2, 3, 4 HD are behind a paywall.

At this time Freeview is very short on space due to we have not yet got any new mux from the start of DTT on the 15th November 1998 ( 15 years ago ) ....We started with 6 and at this time we are getting in some areas test of new HD mux ( com7 ) which is for 5 years contract from OFCOM and there is a contract for another HD mux ( com8 ) yet to come online.
BBC has added EPG slots for new BBC Three HD 105 and CBBC HD 73
We will get a low powered mux for local TV channel which will go on EPG number 8
But as the power levels are much lower many people on the outer limits of the digital cliff will not get these channels SD or HD.....

ITV made a move two or more years ago to come away from free channels and services and brought ITV 2 HD ITV 3 HD & ITV 4 HD to paid platforms and have put adverts into player, BUT has joint service with shopping company and brought us all The Store on EPG 39....
If ITV did have more space and cash to bring a new channel or two it would be a paid service ...

ITV is joint owner of Freesat with BBC ....

You can get extra channels with Freeview by joining services like BT TV and Talk Talk that both have youview boxes that record and have iplayers with over 50 extra TV channel SD & HD which use broadband services to add these channels to freeview EPG listings.... The channels like Watch, Gold, Discovery, Fox, Syfy, Disney, Cartoon network, MTV, Alibi TLC, Universal, Animal Planet, History, BT Sport, Eurosport, ESPN and Sky Movies.... These Internet TV channels have been given EPG slots between 400 & 599 by OFCOM...

So it looks as you will have to get freeview HD TV or Box to get any new mux or buy into youview with BT or Talk Talk internet TV service......

Yes but the freeview HD (or Youview ) bid will allow you to receive DVB T2 and AVC transmissions
    which in simple terms
Gives just under twice the raw bit rate
Just under halves the bit rate for a channel/ service
As well as allowing HD ...
With enough space for BBC to go HD only on its 2 muxes.

As well as the MHEG IC for connected TV ( Youview is natively connected)
    And auto retune......

So there can /will be PSB emitting HD only ( cost savings).
And the com muxes having enough space for more services any in HD .

So there can be a lot more life in DTT
If the TV or boxes are freeview HD / Youview

I'd just like to see the rest of the UKTV channels join. For me Eden is missed, that would complete freeview for me.

Eden is a relatively poor ratings performer (even BBC Parliament gets more viewers) for UKTV so perhaps they will consider putting it on Freeview at some future stage. UKTV successfully boosted Really's mediocre ratings by putting it on Freeview so there is already a precedent.
