Just switch it off when you're installing it if you don't like the idea of everything/a lot of stuff being backed up to their cloud service. I won't be leaving it enabled if I get Windows 10. I suspect this will be done automatically with ready made computers and laptops with Windows 10 on.
Well if the Adobe cloud model works long-term, you'd expect Microsoft to try it too, wouldn't you?
But yes, nothing goes into the cloud from my computers unless I specifically upload it - and it's usually encrypted to boot. I will never change that, whatever MS try and get me to do or trick me into. Take care, everyone!
Sounds good for those dippy people who are forever getting their machines full of crap no matter what you tell them, slap in disc and install base O/S and get them to log in with their windows ID and it'll start recovering all their settings etc while all you have to do is slap on AV perhaps and collect the cash
Not sure about storing of passwords though as that would certainly be of interest to the spooks but i suppose it could be an extra tick box to say store passwords? more than likely the spooks already have full admin level access of the target site anyway and have worked out your password anyway
If you're not doing anything illegal, you have nothing to worry about.
I have a local account on my W8 system and back up important files to BT Cloud and Dropbox. If I get Windows 10 I'll keep everything the same if the option is there. No big deal.

So the fact that the cloud service could get hacked and your passwords downloaded without permission doesn't bother you then? It might not happen, but it could though. Not talking about intelligence services here, but just some hacker out there.

Nothing wrong in being cautious. But sometimes people are a bit overcautious.
So instead of taking. A chance Microsoft gets hacked. I will store all my personal info on a hdrive and usb pen drives in my house, because nobody's going to break in and steal them are they?

All you had to do was answer WITHOUT sarcasm included.
Why would the NSA be bothered looking at my or your cloud drive?
What are you doing that would cause something to flag a alert with the NSA
Stop being so paranoid.
NSA don't need a excuse, they love looking at stuff,
Anyway, I got no reason to use one drive. if i was paranoid then surly I would not use lastpast to store my passwords? I do use dropbox for a couple of files but that is about it.

So why not have a microsoft account on your windows 8 machine? it can back up stuff for you.
you are one of these, if you do not do anything wrong, then what is wrong with allowing someone to spy on you, I bet you are one of these people who agreed with the I.D card as well.

Youre missing the point.
its not like its some people sat in a office at the NSA, saying lets have a laugh and log into someones account today as i bored.
Im sorry to tell you, but youre not important to them, they couldnt give a dam about youre cloud account.
It will benifit more people than yourself, and will make life generaly easier for them to back suff up. The greater population will be better off, but if you dont want to use them, dont. End of.

I do know that, but it still makes it easier for them to spy on people if they got it all online in one place and MS gives them the backdoor key. which they will

You do not know what I do in my spare time, I could be a activist against something the U.S.a does, I am not, but I could be.
Anyway, that is not the point, the point is that all your info your still end up on the NSA servers.

Really, most people would nto know what to do with it anyway, so all this data will be stuff on the cloud and never used.
Myself I use acronis to back the whole system up, so if something goes belly up, easy enough to get it back.
^ I'm not keen on cloued services for sensitive data at all. I'd rather it be kept on a flash drive. Cloud services are okay for anything that you wouldn't be mortified about if it got downloaded without permission.
I with it anyway, so all this data will be stuff on the cloud and never used.
.
By anyone..including NSA and GCHQ. Do you know how many people use the internet daily? There are at least 36 Million Brits alone on a daily basis.
Security agencies are not at all interested in your porn habits or your pics of aunty Emily or whatever. If you have anything you are really paranoid about you can encrypt it.
Yes, I'm against the state doing a general sweep of everything and think it needs to be controlled. But, to be honest, I think they will snoop even if the law says they can't.
In the meantime, I would like to enjoy the benefits that come with tech advancements, rather than hide away and worry and imagine I'm a target of the agencies.
At the moment I'm more concerned about the new profession of Hacking by random groups than anything the agencies are doing.

For the average jo/joe it'll be fine they've got nothing of any interest to the spooks anyway and the ability to be able to just restore systems back to how they were before something nasty hit them is an absolute boon, so just being able to nuke a virused machine then restore the base OS and then by default all those settings are restored is a boon, ok some may need tweaking but the main things are some old dear who doesn't know their details to their email and having to spend an hour on the phone to their isp to get the details reset is not fun

Okay, I should have made it clear that I was talking about hackers as well. I realise that's not what the thread's about, but I meant them as well.
So the fact that the cloud service could get hacked and your passwords downloaded without permission doesn't bother you then? It might not happen, but it could though. Not talking about intelligence services here, but just some hacker out there.
I could also walk outside on my lunch break and get hit by a bus. It might not happen, but it could though. You can't plan for everything little thing that *might* happen, so why get worried about it? The cloud services I use hold my pictures and some non-personal info filled documents. If a hacker really wants to see pictures of me and my mates on holiday or drunk in a bar they are more than welcome, sure they are on my Facebook too.

Because I choose not to, that's why. I don't want the machine constantly running a connection to the Cloud backing up every little thing I do as and when I do it, taking up PC resources and internet bandwidth in the process. I don't have important stuff that requires constant backing up anyway. Plus, OneDrive doesn't offer anywhere near the amount of free storage as other free services do. You're very presumptuous, I'll give you that. I don't want anyone spying on me. I'm not in favour of ID cards. Perhaps you need to calm yourself down. I think your brain is getting scrambled from that tin foil hat. Best take it off for a while.

The thing is though, some people will have images in the cloud service that they wouldn't want others to see. If you only have things that you're not bothered about others seeing, that's fine. According to the link, Windows 10 will be uploading things, or certain things, to the cloud service by default.

The long term business model aim is yearly or monthly fees, not the stupid new OS to buy every year thing we currently get.

And as part of the bargain we get to see their naked selfies now too.

Given some of the people i've met who have no idea of computers....i'm gonna stock up on the eye bleach
I said I can not see myself getting windows 10, but you never know. I did not pay for windows 8 as i have said before, I( got it as a gift.
I find myself using windows less now than when I got windows 8.

Put there some geriatric porn for NSA to enjoy.
