I was just thinking of that. They were so bloody desperate that year. Hard to believe they scrapped a massive rising ladder and a dancer and yet STILL had far too much going on on stage and had to have a bloody ad break before their performance to get it all on stage!
You can imagine the behind-the-scenes tantrums when Diktor was told the stepladder was a no-no.
Speaking of hissy fits, although I'm sure she's not the only one to complain about backgrounds, but wasn't there a stand-off between Chiara and the producers over the images used in Malta's first rehearsal in 2009. She looks like she's at the bottom of a fish tank.

Bottom of the ocean and "What If We", an obvious link.
A slight staging change was in Croatia's closest Eurovision performance to Martina in 2011 where they decided to change the final dreadful costume change from the terrifying magician thing throwing a load of confetti over her to the fireworks we saw at the final.
If you skip to the end you can see it and hear ESC Xtra's Luke's audible "OH MY GOD".
Not a staging change but who can forget Saade's endless smashing glass issues. There was one where the glass doesn't smash for the hundredth time and he gets really angry at the end!

Howling at that! Ask I remember when saade threw that bitch fit :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Of course I had to watch the actual performance, something I never thought I have to do again.;) How did that not qualify? Chicken's favourite if I remember.
Why don't people what Azerbaijan winning, due to them winning in 2011 or because of there human rights.
Remember folks we go on about politics all the time, its a song contest
Because quite a few people believe the Azerbaijanis rig several smaller countries televote by sending teams to vote for them with thousands of text votes (the Cyprus jury said last year their voting figures showed this). If you look at their remarkably 'consistant' high votes from the same set of countries (who have no link with Azerbaijan) for the last 4-5 years it looks extremely suspicious. Azerbaijan has a track record for trying to rig international contests: just google 'Olympics' and 'Azerbaijan cheating'.
I can't deny he can sing well but the performance in the rehearsal is just so cringeworthy
I can! His vocal is adequate now for the song (at least in this performance). You don't need a great vocal for this type of song and if the stage show lands on the right side of standing out then I think there'll be lots to about for the Irish fans!

Though it's funny how the emphasis has switched away from him and onto the staging and the backdrop
Apparently, opinions were divided yesterday at the venue....some thought the performance was rather busy and distracting with too many things going on at the same time, but others thought it was very vibrant and energetic and that it looked great on the TV screens. I suppose we won't really know until the night of the semi
Well it's their own fault for making the whole thing so appallingly bad!
Though opinions on even this were divided. Some people thought having Celtic / tribal staging for a dance track was a crazy idea but others at the arena thought it was very original and that it worked well. I guess the semi final performance will be intriguing to watch and to see how people respond afterwards

A mixture of nationalities in fact! I was reading SVT's blog on the rehearsals for example (through Google Translate) and they thought the tribal staging was an inspired idea, but others thought it was bonkers. We're not going to know for another week whether this staging is a hit or miss
I'm sorry but if SVT have given an exclusive to the EBU to have first reveals then that is that. They can't check escxtra every second to make sure the volume is muted. It will all be allowed come Friday so they should just have patience.

I agree with this. It seems weird to censor a well-loved channel, but if they want to change the rules about broadcasting from the Euroclub theater, then fair enough. I just wish they'd ordered escXtra to stay in the lobby than to shut their channel down completely.

I did, and do, love a bit of "Salad Break". Big Bird deserved to qualify although the Jerry Sadowitz lookalike was quite creepy the way he pawed at her through the performance.
Still the longest pair of legs ever seen at Eurovision as far as I can remember.
*still holding fast with my rehearsal blackout......I'm quite proud of myself.:p

There was only going to be 1 winner in that battle although the "fog" was still a problem.

His live vocals sound great here....I don't think he'll have too many problems on this score in the semi.
Never even knew there was an Irish Party.
BTW, posting this in the other thread, because it's not a spoiler.

Were these people Irish by any chance?

from the 1:53 minute mark
How did they get cameras into the arena? I thought all independent filming was banned?
Thanks!
The dancers should wear those outfits in the proper performance. They actually look decent for a change.
Disgusted by this. I hope we'll see the stream back at some point but I doubt it. Hopefully Luke and the crew dig in and try and fight it.

They're so cute I just wanna squish them. I think the performance has more impact than this clip suggests - the camera angles will make this pop.
Also here's a birds-eye view of the stage during Bulgaria's rehearsal: http://www.eurovision.tv/save-files/resizes/12/d4/b7/f1/ff/18/71/05/bd/88/e1/4d/ec/24/59/94/SH_Atmosphere-1.jpg
The stage looks absolutely minuscule from there.
