Phil Neville has been very good for me. Not the most animated but his content is good. I'd prefer low key at his stage than Gary's initial approach a few years ago on co-commas.

"And the BBC have just made one change for the second half. They've taken off Phil Neville and brought on a speak-your-weight machine."
Phil Neville is absolutely awful. No excuses, this is supposed to be their top team? Not even near it, Wilson and Lawrenson wipe the floor with Mobray and Neville.
He's not a colour commentator. He's a summariser. This isn't the NFL. And I think his analysis is good but he is certainly on the dull side.
Aren't you the king of semantics - it's exactly the same job and you are supposed to analyse is an entertaining manner. Neville would not get near a job in american broadcasting
They have to give Neville more games. Let him develop
He's fallen flat tonight. Content is fine. Delivery a problem. On such a high profile assignment he has to expect this flack but it has been surprisingly vicious
He can improve. Again the key thing is he's not Owen. His insights are good its just lost in presentation

You give an inexperience person the job of commentating on an England World Cup game?????
Comments
Gary Lineker presenting with Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer & Rio Ferdinand
Commentators: Guy Mowbray & Phil Neville
He fits into the vanilla coverage of the BBC. Lineker, Shearer. All fairly boring straight laced harmless guys
I can't stand another 60 mins of him muttering and robot speak.
Put the 5 live commentary on whilst watch tvthen you dont need listen to him
Oooh low blow there

Yes it was a mistake by the BBC but Neville isn't beyond redemption
