    It could have been a Nazi salute.

    Equally, I could easily believe it wasn't.

    It looks like a salute not a point to me.
    If he really didn't know it was a Nazi salute, then it's a wonder he's smart enough to get himself dressed on a morning.

    Footballers aren't known to be the sharpest tools in the shed...

    I'm more likely to believe the excuse. He's a footballer not a Historian, jeeez.

    Its equally a Roman salute and probably an Ancient Greek salute. If he clicked his heels together whilst placing his forefinger under his nose I'd be more inclined to believe it was a Nazi salute. ;)

    Does he or the team have fascist leanings, is that prevalent in Greece? If so that was probably his intention. By the way the OP could just as well have titled the thread 'Greek footballer Roman salute'

    edit - sorry, I see the Roman connection has already been pointed out.

    Good point. Long before it was associated with the Nazis it was used by the Romans. It was used in the USA as the Bellamy salute during the Pledge of Allegiance. It was only changed after Germany started using it. It's been used in all kinds of ways other than Nazi.

    Having said that, though, I don't know whether to believe this young man didn't know it was a Nazi salute and wasn't using it in such a manner. That's between him and himself.
