I am a big Madonna fan but cannot stand Like a Virgin
Cannot stand Material Girl or Holiday (fed up with Like A Virgin but like the video and Teenage Fanclub did quite a good cover of it)
Agree about American Pie too (Don McClean or Madonna's version) but I do have a soft spot for Vincent
anyone said Born In the USA yet? I know the meaning of the song is often misinterpreted (not a patriotic anthem but a protest song about the treatment of Vietnam veterans) but the song itself is downright awful and he sings it like he is desperate to do a huge crap
(but he has done many good songs but not bloody Santa Claus is Coming to Town)

A Whiter Shade of Pale ****Puke****
I'm not in Love - 10cc
Dance the night away (Cant think who sings it)
Red Red Wine - UB40 (in fact anything by UB40)
Anything by Bob Marley (Although Eric Clapton does a better version of I shot the Sheriff
Lady in Red (Worst song ever written)

Are you referring to Dance Away by Roxy Music?
Red Red Wine is overrated but the rest of UB40's songs are very good

I thought the OP maybe meant 'Dance The Night Away' by The Mavericks? I haven't heard it in years, but back when it was a big hit, late 90's I think, it was played to death on the radio and the video was on very heavy rotation on the likes of MTV, (back when they actually used to play music videos of course!).
I assumed it was Dancing The Night Away by The Motors.
Never heard of that song so just had a listen via you tube. Not bad at all, decent New Wave'ish type song. I'm not sure that would be considered a 'classic' though, just checked and it only reached number 42 here so I doubt it got much public attention or that others would be that aware of it? Could be wrong though...

Nah! She was crap.
But I hate, with a vengeance, American Pie.
I like James, but I disappoints me that their weakest song, SD, is the one that gets
all the airplay.
Here's some much better James songs than SD:
"Laid"

"Born of Frustration"

"She's A Star"

Yes! Ugh! Hate that song
How about the Deep Dish /Anousheh Khalili "Flashdance" ? Much better IMO.
Horrible lyrics too sounds like a wife beater making excuses for his actions
Too right she does!
Although JohnnyForget was right about Geno being much better than Come On Eileen.
I also agree with those who listed Sex On Fire.
Winds me up no end that song

That and his chronic sad face.
I think that song is just OK. Why people go mad for it, I don't know.
Overplay can ruin good songs, but my pet hates are and these have come up before:
Angels
Wonderwall
Karma Chameleon
Sex on Fire (I'm a KoL fan)
but I love Hotel California (see overplay above) but I acknowledge its been over played, similarly lots of classic rock songs.
It's an awful song. As is any version of Run
They always seem to play it at the end of the New Years' Eves parties I've been to (generally in hotels) and it drives me mad!
