I think Boycott until he dies and then it'll be Clarkson.

Is that really the best you've got to offer?

Clarkson, joint first with Alan Bennett. Boycott shouldn't even be on that list; he's a nasty piece of work. (IMHO.)

Clarkson isn't even Yorkshire-ish. He may be from the Doncaster area, but he's spent most of his life having his Yorkshire-ness beaten out of him.

Boycott is definitely up there with Parky as a professional Yorkshireman. Alan Titchmarsh also tries to thrust his Yorkyness upon people.

Boycott is a legend, he's beaten throat cancer and championed cricket in the sub-continent to great effect. A legendary cricketer, he may be a Manchester United fan, but he's still a legendary Yorkshireman and, I contend, one of the two greatest Yorkshiremen alive today.

Despite cricket being a poor excuse for a sport, does domestic violence detract from your evaluation of him at all?

I'm not from Yorkshire and I have no suggestions. I'd be disappointed if I was and that's the best it's got to offer though.

Alan Bennett is a good shout, a great playwright and worthy of consideration.
