Not many of them are famous.

Celebrities are hardly famous, well known names possibly.

You could go back decades and print a list of well known people who have died.

    Also from the sports world

    Max Robertson
    Reg Gutteridge
    Jack Kramer

The three WW1 survivers are the most poignant for me - that really is the end of an era

What about the person who has meant so much to so many for many decades:

    Oliver Postgate

May your name never be forgotten.

The ones who stick out in my memory are the three WW1 survivors (and I'm glad a lot of coverage was dedicated to them), Michael Jackson (he was always kinda 'there', even though I wasn't a fan), and Brittany Murphy (this was a huge shock to me, plus I did think she was a good actress)

I guess the piece was put together a while ago so anyone who has gone recently will not feature.

The Richard Todd bit was interesting. Playing his own commanding officer in the d-day landings and having to talk to an actor who was playing him.

How pedantic. Of course, we could list the numbers of famous people who have died over the decade, but the list is for this year - as per the title.

Yes, there are a fair few people on that list who are famous. I didn't actually list them as 'celebrities' as I don't class them as celebrities, (and I don't particularly like the word) but people famous in their own right for a reason.

wow...I never knew that. How interesting. He was also up to play James Bond but was unable to free up the time and thus Sean Connery got the role.

I must admit that I still find Michael Jackson's death strange to comprehend.

Some of the names I'd known of but not known much of what they had done. Others, like Tony Hart, I had grown up with seeing on my TV screen for years, so it's always sad to hear of their death, but at the same time, brings back some great memories. :)
