Hiya guys,
My car battery is flat and it needs charging but I haven't passed my test yet so cant really move any cars on the drive. Would it be alright to take the battery out my car (the dead one) and charge it from my parents car? Or does it need to be connected to the car?
I will connect it to my parents car, start their engine. I will then put the battery back after say 5-10 minutes and start mine up then charge it fully using my car.
BTW the parents are away so cant get them to move it!
Cheers

1) you don't need to have passed your test to move a car on a private drive, if you feel competent, you could do that without breaking the law.
2) you could do as you suggest, if your battery is basically viable but just needs charging it should work
3) or a quicker way might be to remove the battery from your parents car and use that to jump start yours?
good luck!
Well it would involve moving the car onto the path or a fairly busy road so dont really wanna risk hitting anything. The risk is always there!
If I removed my parents battery everything electrical would be lost so was just hoping to remove mine. It does make more sense to take theirs out but they will probably eat me when classical fm comes on instead of radio 1!
But would take much longer than 10 minutes anyway so a waste of time if the car is not going to be used straight after. Needs to be on a charger for a few hours if its totally flat and then that wont charge it fully.
Is there a risk of a car battery exploding while it is being jump started but has not been disconnected from the car chassis?
Or can this risk be minimised even further by connecting the negative jump cable directly to the engine instead of the negative battery terminal?
I've heard of this happening before but not sure why it does.
.....and maybe any alarm fitted to the car (although I think there's a power backup system for short durations without the normal battery - maybe depends on the make/model of car).
