Apple TV, Netflix, Lovefilm, BBC iPlayer, Sky on demand, Sky Movies and Sky Plus... I don't need to worry about Saturday Night tv... I make up my own schedule.
ITV is a business and in these cut throat times, 7 million is very good and Takeaway provides an alternative to The Voice. Yes I think it's mindnumbing dross, but could ITV really justify showing something like Question Time in peak time, which would be lucky to get 2 million viewers. There's always BBC Four for the more sober viewer.
Come on! With some of the stuff on BBC4 it's as well to be drunk whilst you're watching it.
Like the many programmes, that have been shown so many times before. (the coming week's schedules are a classic example).
The positive aspect is, if you fall asleep for ten minutes whilst you're watching them, when you wake up, "you won't have missed anything."
The "top" 10% do get value for their licence fee, or their commercial spending. They get BBC2, BBC4, Channel4, etc..
Ahhh, I see it's comedy time on Digitalspy. From your examples it's plain you've never watched any of the channels you cite.
Still, at least there's Jonathan ...

Meades on tonight, for those of us who like to exercise the grey matter.
That's actually quite offensive. Are you suggesting I'm short on grey matter? Far from it, I'm just pragmatic. As it happens I watch those three channels more than I do ITV. Especially BBC2 and C4. I was only saying your plea for the "top" 10% to get some value for money is not likely to be answered for Saturday night peak time viewing on BBC1 or ITV.
The fact is BBC1 and ITV will tend to go with high audience figures, especially at peak times. I'm afraid that's unavoidable.

Am I the only one who thinks his programmes were much funnier when he was fat? His one about The Fens was a comedy classic. His more "serious" ones don't seem to hit the mark and are neither one thing nor the other.
Well the 'mindless and drunks' pay their license fee, buy things from shops in great numbers, 7 million apparently.
You're nobody on this scale, so go and find something for the 'intelligent and sober' to watch on a different channel.
Another kvetching thread, like there aren't enough of those about...
Was there a point you're trying to make or just some illiterate rant aimed at making you feel better?

The positive aspect is, if you fall asleep for ten minutes whilst you're watching them, when you wake up, "you won't have missed anything."
BBC 4 on Friday and Saturday nights are aimed at the more intellectual drunks. They fill their schedule with repeats of ancient concerts and music documentaries for the middle aged, middle class, wine drinkers.
ITV caters for the pre-loading young drunks preparing to go out and cause trouble in towns and cities across the land and obese families.
BBC 1 for slightly older parents (30 - 45) with "tweenagers" and young teenagers.
Saturday night again and I swear, it's worse this week. About the only non repeat I watched last week was Who Dares, Wins and it's not on because of an extended sodding The Voice. I've started recording stuff during the week just to watch on Saturdays. I'd rather watch Trading Places for the 25th time than suffer A*t & D*c once.

I'm tempted to re-watch some of my recordings, of Suits, The Good Wife, Nashville and Southland, from Thursday.
Well I've just read these 3 pages and have found out -
1. Apparently I'm a drunk as I watch ITV on a Saturday night.
2. I'm also less intelligent because I watched ITV.
3. That I should get back into my place, in service, waiting on the local Earl. (Not said, but clearly that's all my ITV type are good for)
Some people on here!
I'm intelligent, but I enjoy Ant and Dec. I also watched F1 tonight and Pointless if anyone cares. And last Saturday I didn't watch any TV, I was in London at a meal in Victoria. That's if my type are allowed there, socialising with people I should instead be serving, guess I'm allowed a night off.
Didn't realise Nando's had a branch in Victoria ;-)

Have you ever seen The Telephone Box? Was scary then, maybe not so much now. Don't think that many people use them now.
I know Saturday night tv on all channels is rubbish at the moment. I don't mind Ant & Dec in general but I just can't stand Saturday night takeaway, it seems to be popular though for some reason, which I can't understand.
I like Ant and Dec but think their Takeaway show is past its sell by date! It has very little content and loads of adverts, clips of future stuff, clips of what's happened, clips of what's to come, more adverts a little silly sketch, more adverts, then they try to hide beneath rubber masks and they still look and sound like themselves!
The best bit in two weeks was Ruth and Eamonn last week. I'm glad I recorded it tonight and watched The Voice. It only took 15 minutes to watch Ant and Dec as I could fast forward all the clips, adverts and what's to come!!
I avoid Saturday Night TV on the main two like the plague. Saturday Night Takeaway is the only show I've watched on Saturday night on ITV for months. The only other thing I watched tonight was NCIS:LA on 5+24. If I'm in it's usually Netflix or a DVD.
I always find Saturday nights are the perfect night to get the old Potters wheel out, you can't beat a couple of hours being creative, i haven't got any clay yet though i keep forgetting to get some.
I then generally darn some socks for the rest of the night.
Saturday Night Takeaway is great, it's good old fashioned entertainment, simple as that. No 'in' jokes for hipsters that nobody gets, no raunchy, edgy spin on everything to try and make it cutting edge TV. Just good fun. I can guarantee whatever the OP thinks should be on in its place would not be liked by everyone/many. In other news, I have no idea what ''IACGMOOH' is, but forum folks love to abbreviate everything now, don't they? Afaik lmao lol. (Look! I even abbreviated 'Original Poster' to blend in, n'aww)
Besides, it's a damn sight better than The Voice. In fact...not many things are much worse than The Voice. And that advert with the singing baby...the singer voicing that sounds bloody awful. Kinda sets the tone for the show it's advertising, huh?

This what we do. Yesterday I watched something on Channel 4 (The Restoration Man) and then we saw the next episode of Lie to Me on Netflix (we are ploughing through the first series) followed by House of Cards (again first series).
This brought us up to 9.30 when I watched the last half hour of Casualty (first time for ages). My OH was reading the Kindle as well!

BBC 1 for slightly older parents (30 - 45) with "tweenagers" and young teenagers. I have grandchildren who are all in their late teens or early twenties - I am 77 and I watch BBC1
BBC 2 is just a load of tat for pensioners. Have you watched lately. There are some good documentaries on there.
Channel 4 doesn't know what it is or who its for. Ditto for Channel 4
Channel 5 - no idea, what do they show? Ch5 are showing the best new series since Ripper Street was cancelled - Suspects

The long winters nights just fly by at my house.
Seems a really fun way of spending a few hours. Well certainly it's better than watching what's usually on TV.
I feel for my neighbours sometimes, if the telly is bad on Saturday night. I get out my tenor sax, which I only usually play during the day when they are out and I practice my "long tones" with different mouthpieces...I've three of those...
