Clarkson gives away his bank details

Jeremy Clarkson recently gave out his private bank details to make a point about the recent data protection scandals involving lost CDs. He was making the point that the details on those CDs would not enable fraud but at most allow 3rd parties to pay money into your account but not take any out.

Some urban hero has set up a direct debit on his account to pay £500 into a diabetes charity. :D

This must surely be a case of him using reverse psychology, his objective being to attack the government all along. I can't believe he's that stupid.

    Regardless, I still can't stand him.:p

That's hilarious, Clarkson is a petrolhead fool who has somehow gained the reputation that he is spouting 'common sense' to the masses. The trouble is he wouldn't recognise 'common sense' if it turned his hair straight.

A bit of a crackers thing to do.

I could have told him what was going to happen if he printed his bank details in a national newspaper. :D

With the details he published not much more could have been done. If you look at most services that only require a direct debit all you are required to provide is an address and bank details. At no point are you asked to provide the 3 digit security code (to verify that you are actually holding the card) nor are you required to sign anything that will need verification.

Like Clarkson said "we give out cheques to all sort's of unsavoury people." All our personal cheques contain our sort code and bank account. It's surprisingly easy to find out where people live and armed with this information you are 50% closer to defrauding someone in a big way.

Look for yourselves you can sign up for magazine subscriptions, building services and yes charities. You can even do the same for companies that send you a giro slip attached to the bill. The only flaw in the fraudsters plan is that under the direct debit guarantee you are entitled to a full refund if you were debited for something you didn't order.

Let's hope Clarkson allows the charity to keep the £500.

This is the funniest thing I've read all day. :p

I would have agreed with Clarkson, that not much harm would happen - but it seems that isn't true.

I try and be as careful as possible, I even stopped shopping at TJ Maxx after they decided to let all our details leak out. I've only just started to go back now, and always use cash !

you can't be too cautious !

Clarkson is a legend, even legends have off days!!

Bit of a barmy thing to do but hey, a charity has benefitted from it so it kinda works out OK!!!!
