I've been using Chapters/Indigo bookstore gift cards to round out my Region 1 DVD collection. Just logged on to Chapters to add funds and EVERY single DW title is listed as "no longer available online". Damn.
Fortunately, Amazon still has the few that I need, but I wonder how much time I have before the R1 library is completely out of print...
I don't know, but could you be more specific, please? I am in Region 1 (Texas) and I am still working on my Doctor Who DVDs/Blu-Rays.
My preorder for complete season 9 comes to £31.49, probably about what it will cost to get the separate part 2 and 2015 special. I would have bought part 2 if it had the extras and husbands of river song on it but not now. Going to end up with a redundant copy of season 9 part 1 which is a bit annoying. Will end up swapping it for a film in cex or something.
I suppose the separate release of The Husbands of River Song makes it possible to have Series 9 parts 1 and 2 and avoid double dipping.
Isn't it cheaper to buy part two and THoRS than buy the full series 9, given you already have part one? You'd avoid having to sell or exchange part one.

Going off the bbx shop price for the dvd. My pre order for the complete set is £31.49. The part 2 set is £17.25, husbands of river song £10.99. 10% discount and £4 exchange from cex for my part 1 set and £2 exchange for the last Christmas dvd i already have then it will cost me 8p extra to get the complete series.:)

I just need Keys of Marinus, Genesis ot Daleks, Destiny ot Daleks, and City of Death. But I'm out of luck with Web Planet, which was on the list of discontinued R1 titles you used to post.

Yeah. I will need to dig that list out of the old thread.
Once I found out that those titles were out of print, I waited a year to see if they were going to release them as Special Editions (which is the only reason that it made sense to me to take them out of print). Once I realized that they were not going to release them that way (after about a year or so), I went ahead, bit the bullet and bought them over the course of fifteen months (about one a month). They probably cost me an average of $80 each, but I really, really wanted to have a complete collection.

I dont think any region 2 titles are out of print.
Not Region 2, but about a score of Region 1 DVDs are out of print.
I assume you are in NTSC land, you can buy the region 2 DVDs, get a cheap portable dvd drive, change its region, then connect your computer's video and audio to your TV (if it's one of the new HDTVs). You can then watch it on your TV even though it would be a region 2 DVD.
If you have more technical know how you can actually rip the DVD convert the video and burn your own region 1 DVD, but that is a lot harder of course. And yes it's legal for your own private use!

Its not cheaper if like me you held off buying Last Christmas until now, hoping it would be on the Series 9 complete boxset, which thankfully it is!
Do 4 DVDs/Blurays or 1 complete DVD/Bluray boxset!
It makes up for the fact series 8 boxset was so badly done.

I guess the US release takes longer as everything on the disk either gets converted to 29.97fps or slowed from 25fps to 23.976024fps and pitch corrected (the slow down is as bad as PAL speedup btw that's what they did for Day of the Doctor UK Bluray edition and we all hated it)!
In fact I expect it's the slowdown as it doesn't take any more space on the disk than 25fps and virtual pulldown can be used to make 23.97024 to 29.97 for the DVD version.
Something's going on with Amazon and the blu rays of Series 1 to 4. The price of each has shot up to £24.99.
Could it be there's a spike in demand due to the end of the current run and the Christmas special?
I had been hoping they'd drop in price a bit. Just before Christmas they were £18.99, which I thought then was still a bit too expensive.
I picked up series 1 a couple of months ago for, I think, £15.99 "just to see what the PQ was actually like". I already have the series 1-4 boxed set on DVD and wasn't expecting to see any improvement in PQ as they were made in SD, but I have to say, having seen series 1 and compared, there is a marginal improvement in PQ.
Anyway, I guess I'll have to wait a while longer, till the price drops again.

The 50th being in 3D was the problem, as 3D BD only supports 24fps at full 1080p resolution. The thing people most complained about was a strange distortion of the sound. On my equipment the audio is fine, so I suspect the phasing issue only affected those listening in downmixed stereo (or even mono).
A 4% change in pitch is not noticeable to the vast majority unless you do a side-by-side A/B test.

I am still not sure what to make of these. They were not actual Doctor Who serials. Also, I have watched about six release dates for them come and go over the last several years. Why have they not been released as of yet, despite numerous attempts to do as such?

All i know is that the bloke who is making the dvd has been busy working on other projects. That update was from November 2014! Heard nothing since. Still keen to get this though as the daemons is my favourite pertwee story.

If you are talking about for the Complete Series 9, then yes.
The amazing part is that, if we are given dates for the Blu-Ray releases sometime this year of Series 1-4, we will actually have every single extant episode and release released in both the UK and the US. At that point, especially with the long delay before Series 10, there will be no need for this particular thread since we will have finally caught up and have everything released.
Of course, I do hope that they find some more old episodes and release them on DVD so that this thread can go on well into the future. (I am not wanting the thread to live forever, I just want all of the old episodes to be found and released. LOL!)
