Metal Guru is it you
Metal Guru is it you
Sitting there in your armour plated chair
Metal Guru is it true
Metal Guru is it true
All alone without a telephone
Metal Guru could it be
You're gonna bring my baby to me
She'll be wild you know
A rock'n'roll child
Metal Guru has it been
Just like a silver-studded sabre-tooth dream
I'll be clean you know
Pollution machine
So deep, maaan.
You could probably write lots of lyrics down and they would look ridiculous. I'm not sure this is considered classic, wasn't it just throw away for the kids?
There's another T Rex song where they just go laalaalaaa for at least two minutes. Slightly before my time all this but I'm guessing 'you had to be there'. Marc Bolan was pretty good looking so I suppose that was the appeal.

True. I think the T.Rex song that's become a classic in modern times is Children of the Revolution, which has the genius lyric "I drive a Rolls Royce/ 'Cos it's good for my voice". It's just nonsense. But they were considered important at the time and John Peel adored Bolan.
Wouldn't say I despise it but Hotel California is very overrated. People consider it to be one of the best songs ever but there are many better songs both by the Eagles and in general

Yes, you had to be there. Metal Guru is a song about a forgotten 'God', a little more metaphorical than you may first think? 'Get It On' compares a girl to a car, not that original but then Bolan refers to Chuck Berry's 'Little queenie' on the fade.
The llalalala song is 'Hot Love' and it is just that for singing along to. Bolan had a very personal way of expressing himself but some people just don't get the little rock elf?
Everything I do - Bryan Adams. (Although Stewie does a mean cover version .)
Songs such as these and the mentioned Hotel California are played to the point that my brain just shuts them out.
Don't like Dancing Queen - ABBA or Heart of Glass - Blondie for the same reason.
I'm nearly getting terminal brain shut out with School's Out - Alice Cooper.
Some artists you would think have only ever done a couple of songs.

No he didn't; he thought Get It On was atrocious and he never played any T Rex records after that point. It was the Tyrannosaurus Rex stuff that he liked the most, culminating in the classic, Beard Of Stars.

Born To Run
Listen To The Music
Sweet Home Alabama
Living On A Prayer
Crocodile Rock
Candle In The Wind
We Are The Champions (in fact almost anything by Queen)
Sweet Child O' Mine
Sit Down
The Weight
Squeeze Box
Rockin' In The Free World
Won't Get Fooled Again
Another Brick In The Wall
absolutely agree about all of these, especially hey jude and bo rhap.
I thought the point was that Bolan turned his back on Peel, rather than the other way round?
[Bolan had] sussed that the way through for him was by being a little hippie. He used me and he used John Peel. Peel's investment was far deeper, a personal commitment. He waved the flag for Bolan all the way through, until Bolan became huge and then Bolan gave him the old heave-ho in such a cynical fashion. - Bolan's manager Peter Jenner.

I'm so glad that I'm not the only person who thinks this is overrated. (But mind you, I'm not a great fan of the Eagles anyway.)

Me too, in fact any American so-called soft rock has me reaching for the off switch.

I agree with you about the ones in bold. People think True and Gold are Spandau Ballet's only hits which makes them seem like a cheesy band
I really don't think Vienna is overplayed and it is an excellent song
How Imagine was voted number 1 in Smooth's top 500 I will never know. Such a bland song with cheesy delusional lyrics which nobody really believes in
Can't stand it, yet it's considered one of the greatest Christmas songs ever.
Not looking for an argument but that's not quite how I thought it went. See http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/Tyrannosaurus_Rex for what I thought was the generally accepted version.
Here you go, this improves it by about 100%

I really hate Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd, and it's so bloody long too!
Also, anything by Bruce Springsteen. He ain't the boss of me.
