A touch insensitive no matter what you think of the McCanns don't you think. I know its a year on Saturday but its still very much in the news.

Are you really suggesting BBC1 should not show a film entitled 'Madeline', because a girl of the same name went missing a year ago in Portugal?

maybe I am. Maybe they're doing it to keep the name madeline in the news. Who knows. In my heart though I just think its wrong.

Or perhaps they are showing it because its a good family film for a Bank Holiday weekend

Plus, its spelt differently, but thats irrelevant

I feel your being OTT, way OTT

I hate this sensitised grief culture that Diana's death brought in.

I'll not be persuaded otherwise. I just think they could have showed summit else

    But why?

This is probably for a different thread, but thousands of kids go missing and a lot of bad things happen

We can't sanitise television as to not offend anyone. We'd have nothing left to watch.

Though anyone who writes to the BBC to complain about this should receive a full refund on the television licence....and have all TV's in their home promptly removed for their own safety

I'm sure loads will complain. I wouldn't go that far. Maybe being a Mum and step granny to a girl the exact age Maddy makes me feel a bit different.

You do realise this is not a film about a 3 year old girl's abduction?

It's a family comedy that happens to have the same name as Madeline.

And its spelt differently, did I mention that

Plus, it has Nigel Hawthorne in it so its officially acceptable

I was half expecting a link from the Daily Mail in this story

I hope no one mentions Proust over the weekend or the angry complaints will blow out the phone lines!

Look, the BBC tow the line with the government. They could well have been told to put this film on to generate more attention.

    :D

Oh thats funny, the Govt have slightly more things to worry about at this moment in time instead putting a film on to gauge interest in a neglected abducted child

    Absolutely.

Sorry OP perhaps I'm a hard faced cow, but guess what, I think you'll find the majority of the country and the BBC do not have the McCanns and their missing child ( as sad as it is) at the forefront of their minds. Until I read this post I would not have, even for a nano second, thought about the McCanns and this film in the same sentence.

The spelling is totally different - its Madeleine McCann not Madeline.

I don't think the BBC will pull it.

Good grief - the film the BBC are showing is a family comedy based on some children's stories/a cartoon, I think some people are being oversensitive!
The film just happens to be called Madeline, but It is spelt differently and has nothing to do with the Maddie case!
