You and I can join forces next time we see a more appropriate thread. I, honestly, understand what was behind your initial posts. Recreational grieving is sickening. ;)
But this is one of those threads, it fits exactly with what the poster was talking about. I'm failing to see how your distinction, that this is actually for informing people about traffic, holds up in any way.

I think it is a tragic case. Her parents would have sent her to school this morning expecting her to come home tonight, not to have to go and identify her body. In line with the rest of the country a lot of children have to get public transport to their schools and as a Mum whose son will be doing the same soon, you do hope that they will get to and from school safely. I know this sad death is a one off but the anti social behaviour by some of the adults and children can be quite scary. You just want to protect your children forever but you do have to prepare them for the big world that is out there.

I love how the paper sensationalises it by saying a huge manhunt has been launched. Erm, shouldn't they already know who did it? I can't imagine there'll be much of a manhunt.

He's on the run, so they're looking for him and asking people of B'ham to keep an eye out.

You fail to understand why local people need to know why they were late for work? You fail to understand the worries of many local people who have children who travel to school by bus?

As I've said previously, this thread isn't asking for faux mourning, it's informative.

What I fail to understand is how you can possibly be serious in trying to convince anyone that this is where people with such concerns will come to get their information.

    Another tragic stabbing .

This is why I support Brooke Kinsella , an actress who is a tireless anti-knife campaigner . We have to convince people not to carry knives .
    Senseless death RIP .

You'd be surprised, honestly you would.

I've had more information coming from DS:GD than anywhere else, except for local updates from the local authorities on FB.

    So, yes. I'm very serious.

Then you require a huge reality check.

Amusing as that is, I still disagree. This is every bit the rubbernecker/gawker thread the other poster initially thought, it provides no essential service to anyone.

(Not that I am here to judge for that, but the angle that it's informational only was too silly to not be highlighted).

Thank you I realised my mistake here and probably should have posted it in a better place or created my own thread.

I don't think you should. In fact, you'd be best not posting on the subject whatsoever, given your attitude.

A mother sent her young girl to school today - and tonight she won't be coming home.

Think about that, have a bit more respect and shut up.

Sorry that my username is a bit inappropriate for this thread but I can't change it.

Question .. do you live in Birmingham and did you arrive late for work because of the road closure? Also, do you have a daughter who travels into the city of Birmingham to school by bus on a daily basis?

If the answers to both questions are no, then you have no right to judge those who find an importance into this news report.

It's an ongoing news story, breaking at the time the thread was posted. It is of public interest and effects a lot of people. Why is there always someone playing the 'public grief is disgusting' card. Do they think it makes them look bigger than those who are effected?

As much as you hate these threads, maybe and, just maybe, this may be helpful in capturing the murderer.
A major manhunt is underway in Birmingham.

A 16 year old schoolgirl was fatally stabbed on a number nine bus at around 7:30 this morning on the Hagley Road.

A man was detained and released. Police are looking for the knifeman - description from witnesses he is a black man in his teens with very dark skin who was wearing dark coloured clothing. His jacket is thought to have a tiger’s head or other large motif printed on the back. He may have been carrying a bag of some sort.

Please call the dedicated incident room on 0800 096 0095. if you have any information. Thank you.

I don't think I said I "hate these threads", in fact I'm pretty sure I even said I'm not judging anyone who does choose to take part. And no, this thread will contribute exactly zero to the process of catching this person.

But at a glance, through following the thread we'll know if he's been caught. News sources release differing information at different times.

I suppose you're not supposed to judge people without getting to know them first, but every time I see posts whining about "recreational grieving" and "grief porn" and any of the other popular buzzwords, I just can't help but to form an image of an overly smarmy, self important, up-themselves student-y type who just has a problem with everything..

Anyway, ranting aside, I would be surprised if this is a random attack. I think with the attitudes of some younger men nowadays, it wouldn't surprise me if he'd been knocked back from trying to chat her up and took it as "disrespect". But then I guess it's a much wider issue that needs tackling before you truly get to the bottom of why some people not only feel that a knife is necessary but also that they feel extreme violence is the appropriate response to even the most minor of disputes.

WIsh I hadn't read the comments on the Daily Mail article regarding this crime. It's all "This country is finished" and "I remember when we never had any stabbings" and "That's immigration for you". Do people honestly think they woud have had better lives living in the 14th century or even the beginning of the 20th century?

Could be she just looked at him funny or "disrespected" him in some way.

Why can't these people just argue with someone if they disagree about something?

Shout at them or even get into a fight with them if they have to. But having a knife on you and deliberately stabbing someone to settle a disagreement, with the intention of possibly murdering them, is something that the majority of people don't understand.

Normal people go out in the morning making sure theyve got their keys, their purse/wallet, maybe some tissues etc. with them. How can these scum go out in the morning and just need to check if they've got a knife with them?

When will someone interrogate these people and ask why they need to do it?

I know this area very well, it is were I went to university - Edgbaston etc.

I am shocked by this, but am I right in saying we don't actually have any details of what happened?

....so it is all speculation at the moment.
