Do you mean like the ones which took place over the weekend in various towns and cities? Or the ones planned for 30th March?
Doesn't seem to have been reported by most of the mainstream press, for some reason. Only the Guardian is carrying the story nationally.

Sorry I didn’t know about these events, some friends did think it strange that nothing seemed to be done to help all these people (660,000), could there be a conspiracy by some in the government and some in the press to cover this up because if there is its serious and very wrong.

FACT is that 52 organised protests took place up and down the UK at the weekend, but the BBC (British Broadcasting Conservatives) decided to report it as "over 10" and "hundreds" when in fact it was thousands,
and remember not ONE person has had their benefits slashed yet,
not one family, or disabled child has been evicted onto the streets yet,.
just wait until that begins to happen,......

Among 12 housing associations in the city, only 21 one-bedroom and 14 two-bedroom properties are available – but 5,506 households need to downsize or be hit by the cuts.
And outside the city, lettings website Homesearch says only 10 two-bedroom and 12 one-bedroom properties are available in Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe.

I hate the logic. It basically says that families who rely in part or full on the state for housing have "rights" that those self supporting families who bought their own properties, have outgrown them but can't afford to buy a bigger ones, don't have.
Moral of that story is "help yourself and be totally ignored"
Who marches for those people? Why isn't anybody insisting the state builds them an extention to act as spare capacity for some potential future family drama?

I would support that, provided it was demanding that the Tories cancelled the 100,000 pounds a year increase in income for millionaires
and spent the money building new social homes instead, ya know, to make up for the millions of them they sold to buy votes?
but the "Tory way" is to throw one lot of poor people onto the streets in order to house another lot of poor people,
and tell me? how would throwing myself and my partner onto the street, and out of our 3 bedroomed home which has been modified to suit my partners disabilities,
and which has my workshop in the yard which I rely on to remain in self employment,
as well as causing my partner to lose her part time job, help an overcrowded family in London?
by throwing us onto the dole and causing us to rent a private smaller (one bedroomed flat like the one I rented in 2006 that had a higher rent THEN than this house has NOW?) costing the poor hard done to tax payer even more,
Because this house would be 'awarded' to the next person on the list, and "overcrowding" is only one of the criteria, and how do you know that in a years time when my self employment has 'picked up' we wont be able to pay the full rent?
because the moment that happens some sort of miraculous transformation takes place, and we are suddenly no longer dirty under occupying untermensch to be punished or thrown onto the streets for the crime of having a room that someone else has decided we don't 'need'

Renovation grants are available to bring unfit accommodation up to a satisfactory standard. You can get up to £25,000 but this can be reduced depending on your personal circumstances.
Of course, nobody has yet mentioned what is, no doubt, IDS's preferred option - a return to traditional Victorian values.

And you have to ask why the figures are so high in london, could it be greedy landlords wanting to rip the benefit system off. The councils and HAs have proved to the goverment that they do not have the propertys, plus thousands have not got any spare bedrooms, only the new rules are saying they have. This is how it works. 3 bedroom house, mum dad, 1 boy 8 1 girl 9 at the moment are not classed as having spare room. 1 april they are classed as having spare room because boy and girl can share till she is 10, which could be as long as 1 year or as short as 1 month. So even if its a year, they are ment to downsize, then upsize all in one year. That makes alot of sense. All because of a rule change

If it is so bad that there are 400,000 children in inner London alone living in overcrowded housing then why do they not extend it so that the people who are paying rent but living in houses too big for their needs can downsize and so pay less rent ?

Which is why I think that this should apply to everyone living in social housing whether they pay rent or receive HB, if the house is to big for them they should (if possible) down size but if they can't downsize because there isn't any available properties than they shouldn't be penalised.

You have the right to protest, as long as it's behind a big fence where no one can hear or see you and only out of sight and sound of anyone under 18.

And don't stray away from the designated protest area, and keep the noise down or you will be tazered and pepper sprayed.
