iPhone PAYG Settings Problem

I just updated my iPhone 3 to iOS6 and its working ok but is charging me £1 a day to use the Internet. This is synced to my broadband so it shouldn't charge. It's the same with wifi. I checked the cellular data settings and they are on pay as you go. I turned the phone off and on after the update so its not that.
Do I need to check any other settings?

Ensure your WiFI is on and connected or you won't be able to do very much with the iPhone.
