Gadget Show Appalling Tonight ...... Again

I have just turned off The Gadget Show after less than ten minutes this evening. It used to be a good show but this evening there is yet another BS challenge. The Gadget Show's ratings can't be holding up broadcasting this nonsense and I presume its only a matter of time before Channel Five axes it. Turkeys voting for Christmas etc etc.

I laughed at her review of pay-as-you-go phones and the fact that she put looks first and above everything else. Ah the shallowness.

I want a phone that, errr ummm, makes calls as cheaply as possible!

And as for the review of 3D TV on a show that isn't even in HD on a HD channel it's laughable!

I think it's funny how they think everything always comes down to heart rate.

'It's better because this group had a higher heart rate than the other group'

Why bother with informative opinions when you can just strap someone up to a heart monitor? :D

My heart rate goes through the roof when watching The X Factor, but that's not a good thing!

    me too.

Its just a bit like listening to the kids playing in the bedroom.

some annoying noise in the background and nothing of consequence.

I love the digital spy 'I don't like this show so obviously nobody else is going to watch it either so obviously it will soon be axed' posts.

TGS is what it is, and has been for at least a couple of years now. At this point, if it was going to be cancelled it already would have been. Given it now seems to be on roughly 40 weeks of the year, it's a much fairer assumption that Five like it for some reason. The only logical reasons being it gets in viewers, attracts advertisers and/or makes them money (or at least, ends up costing less in net terms than the possible alternatives). Given that supposition, it's not going anywhere.

and Friends is on Channel 4 loop .......so your " quality TV " arguement is still just a loud , presenter self masturbatory fun fest ......oh and includes the odd gadget.

Yea i'm sure polly could just read this review on the telly. http://www.anandtech.com/show/3949/oczs-fastest-ssd-the-ibis-and-hsdl-interface-reviewed/1 to make you happy. Like it or not it wouldn't work. The criticisms tend to be based on some fantasy of what they could be doing instead, when the economics just don't work.

Another week, another thread started slating The Gadget Show. Frankly it wouldn't be a Monday on DS without it.

It seems whilst the naysayers are clearly unimpressed with the show in it's present state, they haven't stopped watching either. And that's all Channel Five are worried about.

I agree the show could be a lot better, but it's not as bad as people are making out. The reviews need to be more thorough and some of the sillier challenges need to be cut back and replaced with more tech.

I had thought the nadir of TGS came a couple of years ago, in their infamous 'all HDMI cables are the same' experiment. Sadly, two weeks ago I watched them group test some HD projectors, and they decided that the only man who could definitively rate the equipment was...Alan Parry. Because they were using a football BluRay as a test disc. and he's, erm, a football commentator.

    Beyond embarrassing.

How many other shows rate projectors? I thought it was interesting if only for it being a demonstration of a real world reaction test by a normal person. People who get upset by it are afraid others are too dim to just take it for what it is. Its not definitive, but so what, are you running to the store to buy things off the gadget show recs anyways? Its just a gadget porn show.

See it's hard to portray sarcasm in text form, so I won't bother :)

If the Gadget Show was doing so terribly, why is it constantly renewed and averages two series' a year ?

Maybe because, as has been said, people continue to watch it even though they hate it.

Here's a thought though, for all the people who apparently hate it so much - STOP WATCHING. That way, the ratings might then go down and you might actually get your wish and the show might be cancelled, or buried in a late night slot somewhere.

Although I imagine if it was buried in a late night slot, you'd still go out of your way to record it just so you could whine about it the next day ..

I am beginning to think I must be the only person in the world who actually likes the gadget show and watches it all the way through!!
I also like the more serious stuff like the rev3 podcasts mentions earlier plus the "twit" streaming from leo laporte, but the gadget show gives tech a uk slant and presents it to the ordinary joe public who may then go on to the more serious stuff available on the internet.

Just enjoy the gadget show for what it is; top gear for gadgets!!

I just can't believe in this multi channel age that the uk doesn't have it's own "tech tv" channel though
