    I have an idea for a (3, 5) solution, but no (3, 4) yet.

Say Hello could be a pun, like 'high'.
    come down could be 'land'
    quickly, not sure.

    Something like Highland Emergency?

My initial approach was to find an Audrey with a 'Cu' in the name, take it out, put 'B' for bishop in its place and job done! Not proving quite that easy though....for a start Roberts, Hepburn etc dont fit the bill :p

Wonder how relevant 'from his position' and 'employs' are? Is the latter just a word that goes well with the clue as opposed to say 'gets', 'inserts' etc?

A coppers position could be something like a DI, CS etc which needs to be omitted. Bishop could be a name like John for example, if its not B.

Like the Corrie themed clue anyway! I won't insult your intelligence by checking that Copper isn't a typo and should read Cropper :)

Excellent, you got all but 1 letter!
In addition to the coppers you mention, there is also the ones in our pocket.

    Some random thoughts:

There are a lot of words for a 7 letter solution.

'Quick man' could be Bolt, Mo, or if motorized, Hill or Hunt maybe.

'fairly well' could be OK, so so, not ill (which combined with Hill would give 'H').

'....' I'm not sure about, probably not significant.

'dead' unfortunately has loads of synonyms, the most common would be ex, d, ob, late ...

'so no' is confusing me at the moment.

'Charlie' could be C, coke, or any of a number of actual Charlies: Chan, Sheen, Parker, Drake, Chester ...

'uiltimately' suggests a last letter e.g. the 'e' of 'Charlie'

Some great ideas there DP, but as is often the case it's not as complicated as that :)

Quick man isn't part of the cryptic

The '.....' is irrelevant, sorry if that caused any confusion

'Well' requires a synonym, then 'fairly' denotes the majority of the synonym is required.

Yes, there are loads of synonyms for dead, thank goodness you don't need any :)

Right about Charlie ultimately = e

'So' is passive, 'no' an instruction

The overall clue was almost topical when I set it :D

    Ah, of course, Grandad :)

    Topical too, very nice.

So what is 'Quick man' about?

By the way, it is your duty as compiler to confuse with punctuation wherever possible ;)

    A German DER
    Odd alien anagram of ALIEN

But this gives too many letters:confused:

Odd ALIEN might be A I N , so perhaps finishes with Britain. I'm not an expert on TV shows so I don't have any other ideas to help .
