Oh I agree really. These modern po-faced megabuck FX films can't hold a candle to many of the 50's cheapies. I suppose I'd put Invaders from Mars in the 'so bad it's good' category!
We need to have a good laugh nowdays !...my daughter laughed at the plastic ants in Them !..I loved the " Mutant Zombies " in the Invaders From Mars film ...hilarious !
Oblivion - 6/10. Interesting topic, however I felt the first 1.5 hours of the movie were just too slow. How many times were we going to watch Jack go out and fix robots before anything happens?!?! Too many times. Sometimes felt bored.
A secretary at a publishing house leaves her comfortable suburban life and rich parents to shack up with a struggling writer. Very much of its time. The writer is played by Bruce Robinson who would go on to write & direct the cult classic Withnail & I. Platts-Mills has made far too few films.
Luckily got to see an advance screening this morning, I can only think it's best described as 'Die Hard in the Whitehouse' although not as good. Plenty of action, gore and brutal deaths this certainly isn't a film toned down for the 12A generation which was a welcome relief.
Timid Brit sound FX boffin - nicely played by Toby Jones - finds work with Italian horror film studio, a place held under the spell of the swarthy Mr Santini (nudge, nudge). Some impressive collages of sound and vision, but as narrative it's sadly more concerned with throwing artful poses than providing any real substance. It never quite steers away from what you suspect it really is, namely one of the oldest tricks in the book. Both too opaque and too obvious, this is your typical Film Council guff, nothing more. 5/10

Nice movie.
Singh has to be one of most frustrating directors around. All his films are practically cinematographers' wet dream, but the plots tend to be a mess.

Snow White and the Huntsman...Enjoyed this although I'm not so sure about Kristen Stewart....7/10.
Different from the first one, but very enjoyable. Part 3 starts filming in 10 days.
A bonkers Japanese anime series that may not be to everyones' taste but is full of silliness, nudity and tongue in cheek humour
