Going through the playlist this week and a couple of things to say.

I met Stella Jones at the 1995 Eurovision. We sat together for a good 15 minutes and had a lovely chat about jazz music, Eurovision, Ireland and Austria!

The lyrics of the Croatian entry are more poignant when you think they were in a midst of a brutal war at the time.

I think I can guess BBAnne's entry. Think she is showing some Dutch courage this week! Anzej was blown out!!:D

The Azeri JESC song. They've started nicking titles as well as votes now.

Albania 2009 is such a great song but I still hate the presentation. Are they children or midgets doing the acrobatic dancing, and why a man in a gimp suit?

San Marino 2013 should definitely have qualified. She reminds me of Tina Arena there. Really hope she makes it through in 2014.

Rui Andrade and Waylon both promising for 2014.

Speaking of the three, Conchita Wurst is on The Saturday Night show on RTE tonight. It must be Eurovision weekend on RTE, the late late show had Cliff Richard last night.

I will definitely be watching. Go Conchita!

It won't be long before the national finals start from all the European broadcasters and we get to enjoy a whole new season of ceol agus craic. Don't you feel sorry for those people who haven't discovered the joy that is watching national finals?

The first NF i ever watched, apart from Ireland, was one from Malta. If that didn't turn me off nothing will. I'd especially hate to miss Festivali i Këngës now. Annoyed they changed the dates for that, 20th- 22nd of December suited me better.

My first non UK/IRL national finals were the German contests of the late 1990's and early 2000's. They were awesome. I remember loving Corinna May in 1999 and then really upset when she was disqualified and didn't go to Jerusalem.I still think Hor den kindern einfach zu would have done really well, although Reise nach en Jerusalem did equally terrific. Oh and the Kelly Family making their appearance in the German finals was fun too.

It is really good. It was called An angel and finished fourth in 2002. I could not find the performance in German nationals but this is the song.

I've never heard of this before and just listened to it (to see if it was any worse than I Can't Live Without Music)

It's fantastic! It sounds like a Christmas song. Would have done very well I think.

Talking of DQ'd songs, this one from Switzerland in 1992 is pretty good too

We should get a compendium together of "chosen" songs that never made it.

    EDIT

This is definitely my favourite. I think it would have sailed through to the final in Moscow (or at least, done a lot better than the monstrosity they defaulted to after she withdrew)

Just listening to the playlist now, can't remember such a 90's overload in any previous contest! Not sure about the overall quality tbh, there's a very good reason a lot of these songs didn't get any 12s.

Thanks to the most recent glut of voters, I can confirm that no songs are on nil points.

My little hint about the way voting is going tonight, in addition to that, is - the gap between 1st and second is 12 points. SPOOKY.

I see where you're going with that Roger, but Maribelle isn't me either! To add more confusion, I remember a week before 2008 contest having a really vivid dream and comin on here to confidently predict that Hungary would be victorious!

Im no longer sure which one is mine :o

Darn it, I thought I had sussed you out!! Now I am puzzled.

HUN 2008 was a bit dull for me, as you know I need a bit more ethnicity usually.

Nice to see some love for the Kelly Family. Still would be good to see them at Eurovision.

This might help, it is not definitive but it is something. I cannot update the wiki until I get a more up to date computer!

    http://dsfantasyesc.wikia.com/wiki/Entries_which_were_never_performed_on_the_ESC_stage

Maganyos Csonak was a huge hit in Hungary, noticed it was in their itunes chart recently all these years later.

    Thankyou!

I'll have a look through that

I've heard the English version too. I wonder which she intended to perform in Moscow?

Thanks for that. Did they participate twice. Only I had listened to something else before you posted that one

Had planned on entering their take on Eres Tu in the covers contest a while back

No you are correct and my song is wrong. I really like both of them. They never made it big in UK but perhaps should have been.

I remember being on holiday as a kid in Spain and the entertainment in the hotel would play Fell In Love With An Alien by the Kelly Family every single night! Loved the song ever since http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucyJp7_kSjQ
