The final two MotoGP races Estoril in Portugal on 31 October and Valencia in Spain on 7 November are to be shown in HD as a trial run on BBC HD.

Hopefully this will convience F1 to follow suit! :)

Moto GP is filmed in HD since 2009 already. Ecclestone announced a few weeks ago that F1 is to go HD by 2011.

2011 = no HD for the beeb.

Will the 2012 season have MOTO GP in HD on the beeb?

No. They chose to do it in SD to save money.

So the best we will get is bbc 2 hd launching, and we get upscaled sd. Poor show.

Matt Roberts has just tweeted that BBC will be showing Moto GP in HD this year.

With more and more people buying HD TV's then surely broadcasting programs in HD is the way to go. I prefer watching motor sport in HD. I watch WSB and WTCC on Euro sport HD but often find that this programs tend to start later than billed so I often miss the end if i have set them to record. It would be good if the BSB season was shown in HD too.

I understood that the BBC only had the one HD OB unit and tested it out at the end of the MotogGP 2010 season ready to be up and running ready for F1 in HD the next season. So have they now got more than one HD OB unit or does it depend if they can get it to the MotoGP circuits when not being needed for F1?

Or is it that Dorna are responsible for getting their HD feed to London and up to the BBC to mix in their bits (which may or may not be HD?) from there?

The BBC don't have any OB units, they sold them to SIS a few years ago.

Alright. Change "have" to "have the use of". Something has changed from last year to allow them to show it in HD this year.

Thanks. At least i can watch all the races in HD without needing the HD pack. that is until sky decide to buy the rights to that as well.

"The BBC came to us. We didn’t go to the BBC and we didn’t go to Formula One," Pocket-lint was told by Martin Turner, executive producer of F1 HD, in a briefing at the Sky Studios complex in Isleworth.

"The BBC was under a lot of pressure with budgets, and they felt that this was a way they could keep Formula One on the BBC in some form or another. The contract could have gone a different way. They could have asked to be relieved of the contract and they [Formula One] could’ve put it out to terrestrial bidders and not involved us."

It certainly wasn't something Sky was expecting, but as the saying goes "never look a gift horse in the mouth": "When we got the rights it was a surprise to a lot of us," said Turner.

Not HD on Eurosport, either, according to their schedule. :( Pity because the night race looks great in HD.

I take it that qualifying is still on the Beeb's red button this year?

There is a re-run on BBC1 HD later in the evening. Blame the golf.
