Oh I'm sorry I missed this, hugely nostalgic for me - as a small child I'd stay with my Grandparents on a Friday night, watch this while feasting on enormous doorstep marmite sandwiches, Quality Street and a bedtime Ovaltine.

I want to be six again

I'd never seen this before and thought I'd give it a go because on the programme info Les Dawson was mentioned and I liked him. I really enjoyed it, especially Les, the magicians and the accident prone ballet dancers Leonard Sachs was great too!

I've seen a sketch on Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV similar to TGOD and I didn't realise the sketch was a spoof of this!

For years I thought orchestra leader Bernard Herrmann was the same chap who wrote film themes for Alfred Hitchcock.

The last edition of The Good Old Days to reach into the top twenty of the week was in July 1981 - 12.6 million viewers. However, that was a one-off for the year, which suggests without checking up that it may have been inflated by the type of programme opposite it on ITV (or possibly a strike).

The last edition of The Black and White Minstrels in the top twenty was in 1976 - 5th place with 8 million homes (JICTAR). This was the Christmas special, but shown as early as 18 December.

That edition on Thursday 23rd July 1981 was one of a series of six (July 2-August 6). It looks as though it was boosted by following the Nine O'Clock News which had 13.15m (5th highest programme that week). Perhaps it was something to do with the build-up to Charles and Diana's wedding. This is all I could find :

ITV was showing the final episode of "Funny Man" with Jimmy Jewel.

Yes when I said it was a one-off I was meaning it was the only to reach the chart.

Well did anybody see it tonight?

They had an act on called Gino Donati. Amazing. He comes on as an opera singer with a pianist, blaring out opera in Italian at the top of his voice. His accomplice comes on as a stumbling maintenance man falling off ladders etc and then they become a fully fledged acrobatic act and all the time he continues blaring out the opera in a professional tenor voice!

Great see Roy Castle in a variety turn as well.

Really good show tonight. Sometimes they've been a bit hit an miss but it depends on the acts I suppose.

Lol! You'll have to start recording it in case. Even if you just fast forward through to the bits you like!

Beryl Reid was on tonight too btw, singing a couple of show tunes.

I've really been enjoying these repeats. It's been a long time since I've seen them and no other show on TV in recent times has had me grinning and laughing so much. Good old fashioned entertainment, and the audience participation makes it even better. Bloody marvellous.

Gino made several apperances on the show, still have a episode recorded off UK Gold which was from the early 80s with him doing the same act

I wasn't able to record last nights episode due to other recordings and they no longer repeat it early Sunday mornings to I'll have to watch it on the iPlayer.

I've also noticed that it isn't on this Friday, hopefully it will soon return.

Don't remember Savile ever appearing but I know Stuart Hall was sometimes in the audience so guess they'll either edit him out or just not show any edition he was in.

Yes I've noticed on youtube there's a few old recordings of his act from various countries.
