Sorry, but nothing will ever be able to beat this!

N'aww I actually feel bad for him. There have been worse songs in Melfest.
I don't. "Get your head out of your ass, it's not a hat" springs to mind with that one.

OGAE UK have been sending out rejection letters. This snoozefest has been filtered out, at least:

His accent is terrible, no wonder they binned it.

I saw his twitter feed had comments like 'You're too good for Eurovision!' you had my sympathy buddy and you just lost it.

Looks like we've got the first few thwarted UK entries drooling out onto YouTube. This one's actually moderately decent, bless it, but would still have been doomed. I'm sure much worse than this will be seeping out of the woodwork over the next couple of weeks...

That's not bad! She has a beautiful voice but needed a much better song.

That would actually sound a lot better with an uptempo backing track as opposed to a guitar. If that got rejected then maybe the NF may be pretty good standard.

That needs a massive beat added to it to make the song drive more.

You have to remember that if it's a rejected song on YouTube it would only have been an OGAE song - of which only one got to the final BBC shortlist, to the best of my knowledge, and isn't even guaranteed a slot in the final.

And to be fair to the pair of them, I think it's only a demo, so there's loads more that could be done with it. They appear to be thunking about touting it to Ireland. Floppy-haired boy could do worse than this...

I agree it seems stuck in 2nd gear but there is a good song hiding in there somewhere. If I were her I'd take the song off YouTube, rework it and submit it again next year.

For an acoustic demo that's actually pretty good! Pay G:son the 10,000 euros that Cyprus have paid and we could've been onto something there.

We really need to step up our staging for 2017. Australia got a cool holographic computer interface, and Russia got a cool wall climbing illusion last year. What did we get? ******* selfies!

So then, I've been passed a list by someone who claims a reliable showbiz source gave it to them. The list, they assert, holds the names of the six acts chosen to perform the UK songs. And I'm struggling to believe a single one of them.

First up, here's the list, as passed on to me...

"The OGAE choice is Abby Scott. Then Eloise Rees, Vangelis Polydrou (formerly of Voice UK), Corinne Bailey Rae, Rhydian Roberts (BASCA) and The Lost Souls Club."

I think we can all see issues already. It's already been stated that there's no guaranteed slot for an OGAE song, and BASCA hasn't been so much as mentioned in dispatches. I'm also informed that the BBC are only looking for solo artists, so that also counts The Lost Souls Club out (on the first of many counts).

Of the artists you might not know, Abby Scott appears to be a Christian lounge jazz singer, and Eloise Rees a flimsy neo folkie. The Lost Souls Club are a clumpy indie rock act. Interestingly though, Corinne Bailey Rae does have an album coming out in the Spring.

So what do we reckon? There's always a few creative lists that start popping up around now. So is it all totally made up, or has someone got hold of an OGAE mailout and grabbed the wrong end of the stick? From what I am aware, the Beeb were casting for acts just before Christmas anyway, so I'd be surprised if anything was finalised yet anyway.

I'm sure this won't be the last of this kind of lark, but it's always interesting to see what people are speculating. Anyone heard any more comedy rumours?

And even Finland come up with glossy, well produced videos for all the entries in their NF while UK get Jake and his dog to knock together a cheap one during their lunch break.

I've daydreamed Corinne Bailey Rae performing on the Eurovision stage so many times (usually The Blackest Lily). Guaranteed she would never do it though.

I've heard from the 'insider' that leaked Molly, that Rhianna Kenny has been shortlisted by BASCA. But wasn't this the same guy that came up with 'Funky Eldrine' / Wonder Villains?

There's no evidence that BASCA even have a slot this year, mind.

Didn't he 'leak' Molly by describing her song as Margaret Berger meets Yohanna when in the end COTU wasn't remotely like either? This guy knows nothing imo.

Either way, a singer who saw one top 20 hit over a decade ago is nothing to shout about!

Heh, yeah, always err on the side of suspicion with people who can only describe potential Eurovision acts by using only other Eurovision acts!

Is Rhianna Kenny the artist who did Word Love, Oh Baby and I Love Every Little Thing About You? If so, she is amazing and has to be sent!

Haad heard Natasha Bedingfield's name mentioned in connection with the 2017 UK selection, any idea if it's true and she is still linked?

What with 18 days to go until the songs get released tgere must be a finalised list at this point. All I am hoping for are songs that won't embarrass us and we can justify our place. Even if we go full on jury bait to get a top 15 and maybe a top 10 place I will be happy. Look we are not getting any "Electro-pop" bangers like ILWAC or mega power ballads like "Sound of Silence or cool funky numbers like "What's the pressure?" in the six. I just hope I wont need to hide behind a cushion or through my hands to watch the show or hold my head in my hands or shake my head in the song reveal.

I've got a good feeling about our entry this year. It sounds like Guy's going all out now he's got a bit of backing from the beeb.

So here's what I can tell you. The final list of songs was drawn up in the second week of December, from a long list of 15 that was put around some music and press professionals, and the artists were being finalised in the run up to Christmas.

Now, clearly I can't tell you whether I've heard them or not, but had I done I could tell you that most panelists preferred the same handful of songs, and that the ones that have made the final are a pretty decent bunch - without being too earth shattering. A couple might even make the left hand side of the scoreboard with a decent performer attached. Or so I'm told...

And although not a massive amount of news has been sneaking out, there's been a huge amount of work going on behind the scenes, from approaching the songwriters, to the three writers camps, the aggregation of the OGAE songs, the focus groups, the artist gathering and the working up of the songs as we speak.

Hugh Goldsmith has been working his socks off to get the songs together, so whatever you think of the eventual list of songs and their subsequent success, it won't be for wont of trying.
